The places I remember most are rarely the famous ones.

A side street. A café in the shade. A wall covered in old paint. Someone passing through a patch of sunlight.

The details change from town to town, but the feeling is often the same. Slow afternoons, conversations drifting through open streets, and the sense that life is happening just around the next corner.

Taken during a wander through the back streets, away from the postcards and towards the everyday.

An evening in Manchester, from my POV ( for another version of events see the post by ).

A very quiet bar in the northern quarter where we sat by the window, a talented artist was performed to too few people.

Things happened in the street, even the police arrived in a rush.

Later a party in fancy dress turned up and that’s when we called it quits.

A quiet evening in Buxton.

Nestled in the heart of Derbyshire, Buxton carries a sense of calm that’s difficult to find in larger towns. Grand Victorian architecture, tree-lined walks and the glow of restaurants and cafés as daylight fades.

These photographs were made during a short stay at the Palace Hotel with , wandering between dinner, conversation and the streets outside.

Sometimes photography is simply about noticing the atmosphere of a place, the people sharing it, and those small moments that would otherwise pass unnoticed.

Have you visited Buxton, or do you have a favourite town that always draws you back?

I find that Manchester is best experienced on foot.

Not the landmarks. Not the skyline.

Seeing he people hurrying through the streets, stepping over puddles, the conversations outside takeaways, the faces that appear for a second and vanish into the crowd.

The city changes every few steps. That’s why I keep walking and observing.

I don’t seem to go out without my analog camera these days. Either the Leica M6 or the M4-P.
The bnw photos were taken on the M6 and the colour using the M4-P.

Time doesn’t stand still.

People emerge from the rain, cross paths for a second, then disappear back into the Manchester streets.

Most of these moments last less than a heartbeat.
Just enough time to notice them. Not enough time to understand them.

Manchester in monochrome feels built from repetition.
Brick, rain, arches, windows, worn streets. The same shapes appearing again and again until the city starts to feel like a memory looping back on itself.

I’m drawn to the quieter moments.
People waiting under archways. Empty windows. Streets that feel paused between one story and the next.

Not looking for spectacle.
Just fragments that still stay after the shutter closes. 🖤
