I was recently on the way home from a quick sea swim, and out of nowhere, a Barn Owl suddenly appeared above the road! I have been wanting to find one local to me for so long now, so it was a great surprise. I visited a few days later (when I had my camera with me) and after some waiting around, it finally reappeared. The light really wasn’t great, but I’m glad to get my first photos of a local barn owl. Hopefully many more to come!

I’ve mentioned before, but I absolutely love taking photos at a misty lake at sunrise. They are absolutely beautiful conditions and can make for some really atmospheric photos. I had the chance to do this again recently, with a few Great Crested Grebes being the models. They were quite far away, but I didn’t let that stop me - I love ‘small in frame’ images and think that showing the environment really adds to it.

(Some of these photos were actually from the area on the mainland where you get the boat from, but I still wanted to include them!)

“More puffins?!” I hear you say.
Yes. More puffins.

My last post consisted of puffins in flight, so I thought for this post, I’d include the photos I took of the puffins on the island (Skomer Island, that is!) This includes a few different styles, including a b&w and also a highkey image.

These birds are absolutely fascinating in everything they do - they have so many funny little behaviours and habits, so I had a lot of fun watching & photographing them. Please do scroll to the end and let me know which photo is your favourite, because I really can’t make my mind up.

Enjoy this little ‘behind the scenes’ of me taking photos of puffins coming in to land! Definitely not easy… and now you see why I ended up with 3300 photos over the 2 days 😬

Puffins in flight

Here’s my first batch of puffin photos from Skomer Island! I had 2 day trips on the Island, so I spent most of the first day walking around and scouting out the best places to take photos. I took lots of photos of puffins sat among the flowers, but not many in flight - so I made it my mission to get some in flight photos the second day. As you can see, I managed to achieve that! They are incredibly goofy fliers so they were very entertaining to watch.

The first photo is my favourite - as soon as I got it, I was absolutely buzzing. I couldn’t wait to get home & edit it, and I think it turned out great. Please have a scroll and let me know what you think!

The Forest of Dean is an incredible place and I was lucky enough to see many different birds during my recent few days there. I managed to get photos of lots of them, so I hope you enjoy!

It is that wonderful time of year again - the best time of year in my opinion - where our amazing wild companions are showing us why this planet is so beautiful.

I managed to get down to the canal before work a few days ago to take photos of these adorable goslings. The light isn’t always amazing for photography here in the morning, but luckily there were some moments where the water was completely orange, and this provided a great chance for some images.

I recently went to the Forest of Dean for a few days and it was absolutely amazing. After many MANY hours spent walking through woods, we eventually spotted our first boar through the thick trees. It was absolutely incredible to lay there and watch the young boar feed from their mother. After watching them, we then moved on and managed to spot 2 other groups of boar that afternoon. Some people never manage to spot them, so I felt very lucky to spend so much time with them that day.
