Henrietta Street, and the area known historically as Haggerlythe, sits right on the East Cliff, overlooking the harbour and the sea.
As the street was predominantly home to fishing families (the backbone of the smuggling network), its residents had the expertise and boats (known as cobles) to bring in contraband like tea, to***co, silk, and spirits.

In the late 18th century, the street achieved a "social inversion." Though originally intended to be a respectable residential area, it became known for "men of the trade" (smugglers and associated characters) and was a lively, often unruly, part of Whitby.

🌟 Rehearsal Snapshots: Bringing Discworld to Life! 📸

I've been having such a fantastic time & feel privileged to be taking rehearsal images for JKL's upcoming production of Terry Pratchett's The Hogfather! 🐷❄️

It's been a truly rewarding challenge trying to transpose the energy and expressive theatre of the rehearsals into a compelling still image. Capturing those fleeting moments, the nuanced expressions, and the dynamic staging that brings Discworld to life.

I can't wait to see the final production. The cast are doing an incredible job! 📸

This production has come such a long way since these rehearsal photos were taken by Memo-Ragtime Photography ... Scripts are down. Costumes and props are sorted. Music and videos are being edited. The set is looking amazing. The director doesn't sleep anymore 😬 but is surrounded by a brilliantly talented team both onstage and off. Who is coming to see by at Cast Doncaster which starts on the 26th of November 😍 after the show some of us will be heading over to Doncaster Brewery & Tap for a well deserved beverage 🍻

We’ve had a great time capturing the rehearsal photography for JKL Productions upcoming interpretation of Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather.

The cast and crew are doing an incredible job bringing this classic Discworld tale to life with so much creativity, humour, and heart. It’s always inspiring to see the energy and dedication that go into each rehearsal — can’t wait to see the finished show on stage!

(Images are unedited or mildly edited in keeping with a typical rehersal environment)

Do AI-modified images have a place in artistic expression?

On the left, you see a photograph of York’s street out of the marketplace, edited only lightly by me as the photographer—faithful to the scene I captured through my lens.

On the right, however, the same space is reimagined as a dystopian, late-1800s steampunk world. It is no longer just a record of place, but a transformation into something entirely new.

The question is: how do we see this shift?
Is the AI-enhanced version still a form of expression, an extension of creativity in the same way a painter might reimagine a landscape?

Or does it feel like a cheat—an intrusion of machine invention that distances us from the authenticity of the original?

Where do you stand?

18 years ago Back in 2007, I took my very first real step into photography with a humble Fuji S5700 bridge camera, a little basic machine that opened up a much bigger world.

I remember heading down to Sprotbrough Falls and capturing three simple shots that, at the time, felt like magic. They weren’t perfect by any technical measure, but they carried something deeper—moments frozen in a way my eyes alone couldn’t quite do.

Those images stayed with me, quietly etching a desire to keep chasing that feeling. Looking back, it’s clear they planted the seed for what has since become a lasting passion.

Even if by today’s standard quite low resolution, they created the start of my quest to truly pursue photography further.
