A year ago today, I had surgery that saved my life — but it also changed me in ways I’m still learning to understand.
No one really prepares you for what it feels like to lose a part of yourself in order to survive. I would make the same choice again in a heartbeat, without hesitation… but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been painful in other ways.
I always thought I had more time. I always thought there would be another baby. That choice was taken from me, and even though nothing visible is missing, I feel it every single day. I don’t feel like the same woman I was before.
But I’ve realised something over this past year — I am stronger than I ever thought I could be. Not because I chose this, but because I had no other option but to face it head on.
A hysterectomy doesn’t just heal you — it changes everything. The physical pain, being thrown suddenly into menopause years before you’re ready, the emotional weight… it stays with you.
Endometrial cancer in women under 45 is rare — less than 10%. But “rare” doesn’t mean impossible. Cancer doesn’t care about your age.
So please — listen to your body. Trust it. If something doesn’t feel right, speak up. Push. Ask questions. I had to fight to be heard, because I knew something wasn’t right.
One year on, I’m still healing. I still hurt. But I’m here. And that means everything.
