Hey frends❤️ humans I’ll again but managed to take me on a couple adventures before they felt more sick. I’ve been on assistance animal duty this week and it’s been hard work 😹 I’ve interrupted a couple nightmares and done a lot of DPT and disruptive behaviour prevention and humans been very appreciative 🥹

They don’t often take me and Xena together without spare human but they felt guilty as I am a master manipulator and spent every day sitting at the door begging to go on walks😭 humans had the misfortune of dealing with 3 sick rats and a storm 😹

Co operative care is when you work with your pet into being voluntary participants instead of needing to force them.

Storm is reactive at times to being handled around the face and feet, and we have struggled getting him to take meds unless we hide it well enough with a lot and lot of treats (which sometimes gave him the 💩😭🤦🏽‍♀️) or restrain him with towels and a cone which has caused both of us injuries, frustration and stress. 😿

Now storm needs meds twice daily it was definitely time to start training this properly but the humans been super busy and previously he only took meds for occasional vet visits.

So far it’s been day 4 and he’s taking to it so well! 😻And he’s coming up to the blanket and staying more often too! It’s never too late to start building trust and changing the experience for both you and your pet🥹

Let’s normalise taking adventure training at your cat’s pace! 💕Some cats take to it quickly but others could take months or even a year and that’s completely okay!

The harness should be comfy, secure and introduced slowly! It is vital to make it a positive experience! Thrashing, aggression, fear or signs of shut down should not be treated as “part of the process!” 😿

Desensitisation is also a huge part of adventure training. Sounds, cars, buses, dogs, and new environments should be approached slowly and positively to build their confidence. 💅🏾

You don’t want to flood them- which is when you expose your cat to too much way too fast and “expecting them to get use to it”. You must take breaks and understand their body language. Recognising the signs of shut down- like being frozen and not reacting to sounds etc😿

Being an adventure cat is not a “put a harness on and lets go” kind of thing. It takes time, patience, trust and training!

We had our first incident a few weeks ago now when my harness snapped on a walk🙀

My recall is reliable, I have an emergency stop command and I’m not easily spooked. However that doesn’t mean nothing could happen!

Thankfully we have been incredibly fortunate to be working with and that gave my human an extra sense of security should anything happen and I got lost or spooked.

I had my first flying experience and 10/10 don’t recommend but 100% will do it again😹

‼️DISCLAIMER‼️ - No jaspers were harmed and spare human was there to catch me and break my fall!

I have never climbed this high and the crows started taunting me and I unlocked a new level of stupidity and bravery😹😭😹

It’s a rare day where spare human is willing to appear on the socials 😹 but we had a fun walk until the sunshine turned into heavy hail 😭and a bit of an embarrassing tumble out a tree (I’m okay just embarrassed as once the humans softened my fall they laughed at me😭😹)

Still looking adorable despite my big fall in my fave dino bow from 🦖
