Stone, water, wind and small figures moving through the frame.
I was drawn to the way people changed the scale of the place without becoming the main subject.

Yet another set from Porty.

Les Alizés is back at the entrance to the Port of Leith. A 236-metre heavy lift vessel built for offshore wind farms and fitted with a 5,000-ton crane that looks completely absurd against the Edinburgh skyline. The ship is used to transport and install XXL monopile foundations for offshore turbines across the North Sea. Some of those structures weigh up to 2,500 tonnes on their own. Human beings really looked at the ocean and decided it needed industrial-sized Lego.

In the evening light the whole thing feels unreal. Steel, cables, floodlights and silence sitting at the edge of Leith while the city carries on around it.

One of the biggest working machines ever to arrive in Edinburgh. And somehow it’s parked here like it’s a normal Tuesday.

West End at twilight always feels slightly detached from the rest of the city.
The light drops gradually. Shop windows stay bright a little longer. People move through the frame without really stopping. Buses, reflections, not much long shadows, cold stone and the last bit of blue and orange in the sky before night takes over.

A small throwback to winter in The Meadows, Edinburgh.

These photos were taken in January, when the trees were bare, the light was low, and the city had that cold, sharp look it gets in winter. People still moved through the park and the streets around it, just with less enthusiasm for existing outdoors. Understandable.

Now it is almost summer, and the warmest weekend of the year so far is getting close. So this felt like a good moment to look back at Edinburgh in its colder mood.

Old stone, winter light, bare branches, and small human moments around The Meadows.

Leith Walk. Last day of April.
Low sun. Long shadows across the pavement.

The street stays busy. People crossing, waiting, moving through light and shade.
Short moments. Quick shifts. Then it resets.

A clean evening in Edinburgh. Rare kind.

Portobello yesterday.

Clear sky. Low sun. People gathering around small fires on the beach.
No rush. Just that short window when everything lines up.

Summer just around the corner.
