One thing I’ve learned in my 25 years as a professional photographer and shooting 1000+ weddings, is that no wedding supplier gets remembered (and recommended by the B&G) for being efficient and good at their job. Being efficient and good at your job is a given. As it should be. Thats what you’re paid for.
You get remembered for being empathetic.
You are remembered & recommended for being able to recognise it’s the bride and groom’s EXPERIENCE of their own wedding day that matters above everything else. The wedding is not about the venue, or the chef, or the florist, or the piper, or the minister or celebrant, or the wedding planner. Or the photographer.
To know when to pause, step back and simply allow the bride and groom (and their families) to just be. To take the time they need when they choose, to enjoy, to savour, to laugh or cry or hold. And then knowing when to quietly and gently step forward again with a kind word.
Too often I’ve seen the wedding party be rushed from pillar to post from every wedding supplier, including photographers. Empathy is a superpower when it comes to weddings. And that only comes and grows with experience.
