I’ve recently returned from Southern Italy where I’ve been taking a new series of photographs, found in walls and other surfaces, my way of painting when I’m away from my painting studio. I’ve been thinking about these found images and how they are all unique stories in themselves. There’s a mystery about them and how that particular surface arrived at how it looked when I found it. Also of all the surfaces that I have seen in my walking around Naples, the Amalfi Coast and finally Pompei, why in particular I was drawn to the surfaces that I chose to photograph. There’s a lovely mix of serendipity and intention, just as in my painting. Why do certain things speak to us? Does anyone else wonder about this? It’s intriguing.
These 2 images were photographed in the streets of morn Pompei town, not the ancient site, although others hopefully will be. I’m right at the start of editing through the hundreds of images I took whilst away but was excited to share these.
The Limited Edition photographs will be available on my website soon.
