The best thing about newborns? EVERYTHING. 🤍

They're tiny.

They're squishy.

They're sleepy.

They're completely unpredictable. 😂

They can go from peacefully snoozing to screaming like they've just been personally offended in approximately 0.2 seconds!

But somehow, even the chaos is adorable.

I love the little personalities that are already starting to show. The serious faces. The frowns. The smirks. The stretches. The way they snuggle into Mum or Dad and instantly settle.

And then there are those moments when they're completely peaceful and you just think…

"How can someone so tiny be so incredibly loved?" 🥹

Those are the moments I want to freeze for you.

Because they won't stay this little for long. 🤍

Planning a cake smash? 🎂 Here's what I'd recommend bringing:

👕 A spare outfit — because things can get VERY messy!

🍼 A drink for your baby.

🧸 A favourite comforter or dummy if they use one.

👶 Any little personal item you'd love included.

And most importantly…

**Don't worry if your baby isn't a massive cake fan.**

Some babies LOVE it.

Some don't know what they're supposed to do with it.

Some are far more interested in the decorations than the cake. 😂

There's no pressure to eat it.

We're there to capture their personality and celebrate their first birthday — whatever that looks like for them. 🤍

One of the questions I'm asked most about maternity sessions is:

"When should I have my photos taken?"

Generally, I recommend around 27-36 weeks.

Your bump is beautifully visible, but you're hopefully still feeling relatively comfortable and mobile enough to enjoy your session.

Of course, every pregnancy is different, so there's no magic week that works for everyone.

And please don't worry if you're not someone who naturally feels comfortable in front of the camera.

I'll guide you through your poses, where to put your hands, how to stand and how to move — so you don't have to arrive knowing what to do.

You just need to bring your beautiful bump. 🤍

Dog photography isn't always sitting beautifully, looking at the camera and behaving like a model. 😂🐾

Sometimes it's zoomies.

Sometimes it's sniffing EVERYTHING.

Sometimes it's deciding that the backdrop is actually a very exciting new toilet location. 🙈

And sometimes… after all the chaos, they suddenly give you THAT look.

The one that makes the whole thing worthwhile. 🤍

That's why I don't expect your dog (or mine) to be perfect.

I photograph them as they are — their personality, their quirks, their expressions and all the little things that make them your dog.

Because those are the things you'll miss the most one day. 🐾

Things I want every new parent to know before their newborn session:

Your baby does NOT need to sleep perfectly for their newborn session. 🤍

In fact, some of my favourite images happen between the sleepy moments.

Your baby might need feeding.
They might need cuddles.
They might need a little break.
They might even decide they absolutely DON'T want to sleep! 😂

That's all completely normal.

My job isn't to rush your baby through a list of poses. It's to work around them, keeping them comfortable, settled and safe while capturing those beautiful little details you'll want to remember forever.

So if you've been worrying that your baby won't "cooperate" for their newborn photos… please don't.

You don't need a perfect baby. You just need to bring your baby. 🤍

There's a stillness in the first few weeks of life that you can't quite explain until you've felt it. The tiny breaths. The way a whole hand wraps around one finger. The world outside just... pausing for a moment.

That's what we chase in every newborn session — not just perfect poses (though lots of those too), but absolutely the quiet, precious, real magic of the newest family member.
