In central London, at Trafalgar Square, I documented a commemorative gathering held by practitioners of Falun Dafa, marking one of the most significant dates in the movement’s recent history.

For Falun Dafa, April 25 carries profound meaning. It recalls the peaceful appeal in 1999 in Beijing, when more than 10,000 practitioners gathered quietly to request the release of fellow practitioners detained in Tianjin, and to affirm their right to practice freely. The event was widely described as peaceful and orderly, with no slogans or confrontation, and participants left the area after their requests were acknowledged.

Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) is a spiritual practice introduced in China in 1992. It is based on meditation exercises and moral teachings centered on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Today, it is practiced in over 100 countries worldwide.

Shortly after the events of 1999, a nationwide campaign was launched by the Chinese Communist Party against Falun Dafa. According to numerous human rights reports and independent investigations, the persecution has continued in various forms to this day.

These photographs capture moments of remembrance and peaceful presence in London—part of an ongoing effort to raise awareness about an issue that remains unresolved.
