Having a wildlife hide of your own: The truths.

It is not easy.

●Many hours is involved
●Many miles are travelled (unless it is on your doorstep)
●Keeping the habitat clean, natural.
●Maintence of feeders, perches.
●Survey of the area to keep an eye on numbers.

It takes a very high level of dedication and self sacrifice to do a hide of any sort but the rewards can be fantastic!

The hide I run Scots Pine Wildlife Photography Hides based in the east riding of yorkshire has been rather busy as of late and that mixed in with family life meant I've not actually had time to do a session in my own hide, which ain't a bad thing really as the hide is there for all of you to enjoy!

But yesterday (29th March) was the day I was finally able to sit back, relax, enjoy a day session.

Myself and a client was rewarded with a visit from the male stoat which stuck around for a decent amount of time running to and from its den were the female was calling to him (guessing she was hungry).

Make sure to flick right as their is more than one image 🙂.

In other news: A video Photography by Sarah King posted on her Instagram of the female stoat has hit 1.8MILLION views 😲

The weather this week looks to be turning once again I wonder if an opportunity like the one I got with this female Kestrel will happen once more 🤔.

Who watched last night's absolutely amazing to watch! The way the film crews dedicate such time and patience to capture the footage they need is astounding.

well done splendid work👏

thank you for this wonderful start to the series.

For those who maybe wondering where was last night's episode footage filmed here is a comprehensive list.

Wastwater and Wasdale, Cumbria

Old Harry’s Rocks, Dorset

Glen Affric, Scottish Highlands

Ingleborough, Yorkshire Dales

High Force Waterfall, North Pennines

Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

•Bass Rock - Firth of Forth - section on seabirds

•River Isle - Somerset - focus on •Britain’s river life

•Isley - Inner Hebrides - a wild goose chase

•Cairngorms National Park - Scotland - golden eagles

•Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park - Scotland - golden eagles

•Shetland Isles - Orca whales

Across the five episodes, the Wild Isles crew filmed in 145 locations and 96 species which took 1,631 days to film.

Many know how much I follow the work of Sir David Attenborough to the extent I've had many jokingly say I am much like him 🤣. He's better looking and far more intelligent than me but il take it as a compliment haha.

Friday 3rd of March signifies World wildlife day.

World Wildlife Day is an international celebration of wild plants and animals that takes place on March 3rd every year. This day recognizes the beauty of life on planet Earth and encourages us to preserve biodiversity on a global scale.

Been a brand ambassador for Conker Nature Magazine this is one of the key factors of our passion, if your an avid reader of the magazine you'll see many stories, images of conservation etc.

As many know I use Sigma UK
Lenses, it's not just because of the quality of there optics but also the fact Sigma's ethics matches mine. Last year for every lens & camera sold they planted a tree which was partnered up with Eden Project

As a hide owner Scots Pine Wildlife Photography Hides I understand the level of conservation which is required from providing habitat, nest boxes to planting of new trees and flora.

Even the filters I use on my lenses are by Urth who with every registered product sold they plant a tree, use recycled material in there packaging also.

Every little help but remember to give back! This is an issue with some humans many are happy to take take take but don't give half as much back unless they get something from it (that is called ignorance). The balance is then off and becomes a downwards spiral unfortunately.

World wildlife day is not just about conservation though! it is also about sustainability and biodiversity as mentioned above.

us as humans making a positive change to improve and help our planet as a whole.

Did you know.

Some countries actually class this day as the start of World Wildlife WEEK and present a program spanning a week within there zoo's, centres etc.

Don't you just love a good Woody 🤭😉

Not only do we have the female great spotted woodpecker but our resident male has popped back on the scene.

He has been checking out the trees and drumming the wood to find that one tree he may think will be the one come spring. The drumming is essential as it's a sign a woodpecker uses to stake out its territory.

Today as I visited to check over the reflection pool he was actually down on one of the feeders and then flew up high in to one of the scotspines.

Last year in our building up period after breeding season we had 4 come down which was the two adults and juveniles. Fingers crossed this season is just as good if not better 🤞

Book a spot whilst you can at the winter rate as come spring our prices will change.

£30 Half day (8:30-12)
£50 Full (8:30-5pm)

Today is which means we take some time to reflect, focus and admire these wonderful avian animals.

They come in many shapes, colours, sizes and even provoke emotion for us when we see a certain species.

It's impossible to deny it, the swooping majestic motion of an owl, the skill of a kingfisher or this goldfinch in search of its next little meal.

They all matter❤

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITE BIRD?

🤗 Thank you Sigma UK what a moment it was capturing the image. Myself and the kestrel was pretty much covered in snow haha.

Make sure to check out the range of lenses sigma have on offer! Honestly they have such a vast range with more new lenses on the way this brand is only going to get stronger and stronger.

A Kestrel hovers in the sky trying to spot its prey though thick winter snowfall.

This beautiful image was captured by wildlife photographer Martin Pritchett using the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG HSM | Sports and shows how braving the cold can yield once in a lifetime image.

Martin's review of the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG HSM | Sports lens will appear on his YouTube channel, so don't miss out!
