Easter weekend marked a significant milestone for me. The 20 year anniversary of my little photography business!
Following redundancy from my corporate job in January 2006, I went travelling to New Zealand. It was whilst abroad that I made the decision to venture into the photography world full time. I had been learning the craft as a ‘weekend warrior’ for a couple of years, second shooting at weddings, doing portrait sessions etc., and I had much of the required equipment. So rather than going back to a ‘9-5’, I decided to transition into photography as a full time career.
On my return, from the beginning of the tax year, I started trading as 'Front Page Weddings’. The name, derived from the documentary style of photography that was in-vogue, was suggested to me by a friend during a brainstorming session in a coffee shop on Brighton seafront.
Initially concentrating on wedding and portrait photography, as the business grew and I diversified into other areas of photography, I decided to change the business name to 'Front Page Photography'.
Over the years, as with all businesses, there have been challenges. The so called 'Credit Crunch' in 2008, the uncertainty of Brexit and of course the Covid Pandemic, which obliterated my work diary in 2020/21.
These days, photographers face different challenges. Increased (and younger) competition as more and more 'photographers' enter the market. Fewer weddings and rising business costs for equipment, insurances and software making it harder to maintain a healthy profit margin.
However, 300 plus weddings, thousands of portrait sessions, parties, dance shows, schools, corporate events etc. later, I'm still pushing forward, at least for the foreseeable future.
Thank you to everyone who has booked or supported me in some way over the past 7,300+ days.
