“Perfect Ain’t the Point”
We’re stood ‘ere together, yeah, side by side,
Cassie speakin’ honest, Arnie puffed up with pride.
World Autism Awareness Day, April 2’s the date,
An’ April’s Acceptance Month—let’s get that straight.
It’s about understandin’, includin’, support,
Not judgin’ people for how they talk or they sort.
Autistic people ain’t less, ain’t below,
Just different ways of thinkin’ the world can show.
I believe in equality, simple and clear,
No one is “above” just ‘cause of how they appear.
If others think different, that’s on their view,
But it don’t make it right—nah, that ain’t true.
Now this “perfect” idea—let’s call it out,
Filters and standards and chasing clout.
Perfect teeth, perfect face, perfect little pose,
Still not knowin’ who’s under those clothes.
Takes loads of photos just to pick the one,
Smilin’ on cue like it’s all just fun.
But real life ain’t edited, lined up, or staged,
It’s messy and honest and sometimes enraged.
Meanwhile autistic people live as they are,
Some close to home, some reachin’ far.
Some quiet, some loud, some steady, some bright,
All of them valid, all of them right.
I’m Cassie—I notice the looks and the tone,
The judgement that tries to make people feel alone.
But I’ve had it too, so I understand well,
What people don’t know, they’re quick to sell.
Arnie stands there, chest out proud,
Like, “No one’s less just ‘cause they stand out the crowd.”
No need for fixin’, no need to pretend,
Just basic respect—that’s where it should end.
So here’s the message, simple and true,
Autistic people are equal—same as you.
And if someone can’t see that, that’s their own view,
But it don’t change a thing about what is true.
