09/01/2026
The first full week of 2026 is complete, and it’s felt a little different this year. Often the new year arrives and we’re both tired and still buzzing from the chaos of Christmas, but this time it wasn’t quite as hectic. We paced out the holidays to fit in lots of ‘nothing’ days… time to just be.
The kids are usually the first ones to ask for a day at home and do you know what, I think we all benefited from it. We do love seeing family but with everyone living quite far away from us it very often ends up being a bit of a run around to try to see everyone. Thanks to a big family gathering and a couple of visits from family over the holidays, we still managed to see lots of loved ones, whilst getting a balance of just being at home and staying local. I think opting for a calmer and slower Christmas has meant that we’ve come into the new year a bit fresher.
This week has brought routine back into play and I think we definitely felt ready for it. As we step through our morning routine I find I’m watching the dark mornings to see how soon the light appears, knowing that just around the corner we’ll be woken up to the sound of birdsong and sunshine filled skies.
I always feel like there’s something quite uplifting about January. The start, the beginning, the new. I love writing on that fresh new page in my notebook to start putting ideas into motion and creating a plan to carry us forward through the year. I don’t know about you, but ticking things off that first list of the year feels very satisfying.
We have a fun weekend ahead of us with a crisp winter walk planned and a catch up with friends. I’m looking forward to it and hope you have a lovely weekend ahead too x
