Untitled Life Drawing

2025

Willow Charcoal on Newsprint

This piece was born in a life class with no model. So we did what we always do and improvised, instead drawing movement! The piece follows the fast path of a flag waved ritualistically to music, and marks the staring point in a style I now use for a lot of my drawings, particularly those in the Dancing for Parkinson's series. The overlaid marks work to suspend and elongate split seconds of time, distorting our perception.

Dancing for Parkinson's Series 12/11

Soft Pastel on Paper

2026

This is a series of drawings I created in a Dancing for Parkinson's session. I was working a lot different than how I would usually, using large, gestural marks from the side of the pastel. I stuck to a more limited palette to embrace the spirituality of the sessions, with black marks to create the space around the yellow glow of the background. I'm hoping they'll give me some good foundations to make some paintings/sculptures from!

Which one should I make a painting from? I can't decide 😫

Untitled (Life Drawing)

2025

Charcoal on Newsprint

This is one of my favourite pieces from life class this year! It started as a failed drawing, at which point I let go of my vision and began to draw specific parts around the main body. It resulted in a surreal drawing with fragmentation, and it's simplicity and lack of finish I think help to make it so strange.
