An afternoon at Lisca Bianca.
One of the most beautiful spots to go bathing and people gazing in Panarea and indeed in all of the Aeolian Islands is around the rocky island of Lisca Bianca. Adjacent to this is its little brother Bottaro, on top of which I climbed with my camera equipment in order to capture this view. Normally a Sunday afternoon in late July is quite busy, but this time it was relatively peaceful, which allows me to capture uninterrupted the beautiful rocky sea bed beneath me.
Film director Antonioni set his 1960 movie "L'Avventura" on Lisca Bianca - a mysterious film with future stars Monica Vitti and Lea Massari. This film which gained international acclaim, is noted for emphasising visual composition, mood and character over traditional narrative development. Rather like, in many ways, what I hope to achieve with this image of summer in the Aeolian Islands.
