Adam Butler Photography A page showcasing my photographic work. See my website www.adambutler.com for more information or to I have been a professional photographer for over 20 years.

This is a page to showcase my best photographic images, including landscapes, cityscapes and panoramic views, portraits and travel images, as well as timelapses and videos. Subjects include London, the Mediterranean, and specifically the Aeolian Islands, Scotland and other places. My commercial work is shooting interiors and architecture for interior designers, architects, building companies, property developers, etc. I live between London and the small but very beautiful island of Panarea off Sicily - one of the volcanic Aeolian Islands. A book of my photographs of Panarea was published in 1998 by Iditella Press. I'd like to think that I am working on a new one for my panoramic images...watch this space. If you enjoy what you see here, please click "like" and share with all your friends. And if you would like to own any of my images, they are all available as limited edition prints in a variety of different sizes; please see my website www.adambutler.com for more details.

An afternoon at Lisca Bianca.

One of the most beautiful spots to go bathing and people gazing in Panarea and indeed in all of the Aeolian Islands is around the rocky island of Lisca Bianca. Adjacent to this is its little brother Bottaro, on top of which I climbed with my camera equipment in order to capture this view. Normally a Sunday afternoon in late July is quite busy, but this time it was relatively peaceful, which allows me to capture uninterrupted the beautiful rocky sea bed beneath me.

Film director Antonioni set his 1960 movie "L'Avventura" on Lisca Bianca - a mysterious film with future stars Monica Vitti and Lea Massari. This film which gained international acclaim, is noted for emphasising visual composition, mood and character over traditional narrative development. Rather like, in many ways, what I hope to achieve with this image of summer in the Aeolian Islands.

We did it. We bought an apartment in Trapani, a beautiful and historical town in Western Sicily. Our plan is to move there more or less permanently, perhaps not for a few years yet, but that's the idea. Of course we will keep our place in Panarea! Stay tuned for more pictures and thoughts of our new lives.

Continuing with my new series of capturing Mediterranean Beach Scenes here is a view of a beach called Guidaloca. I was recently for a few days in Trapani in western Sicily where we have just bought a house. Trapani is a lovely little city which I hope this will be our base for many years going forward. All around the area are stunning coastlines, beaches, nature reserves, mountains, ancient temples, medieval and ornate baroque buildings, contemporary landscape art, as well as of course the typical Sicilian multicultural atmosphere.

This is a beach scene near Castellamare del Golfo. I will now continue to shoot the stunning Aeolian Islands of course, but will also now extensively shoot all around western Sicily as well. Stay tuned for more Dolce Vita scenes of the joy of the Italian and Mediterranean summer.

Terrace with view of Basiluzzo.

For me, this view typifies what I love about this unique Mediterranean island. The rocky islands in front of the port are stunning at all times of day as the light changes and they offer an ever fascinating backdrop to lazy afternoons spent on a terrace, whiling away the time whilst relaxing into the languid rhythms of Aeolian island life.

Full moon tonight. Snapped with my iPhone, remarkable quality. Seen here rising over Raya hotel and the sea... after a wonderful evening spent with wife and daughter and great friend Christine D from Montreal at the Eoliano restaurant on Panarea. Great to be back. Summer holidays are just the best, and no better place on the planet to spend them than here in the Panarea, in the incomparably beautiful Aeolian Islands. I'm sad son Arlo couldn't make it this time; but he's happy chilling back in London. Tomorrow a group of friends will arrive from London, Paris and Montreal, we're going to celebrate our 60th birthdays this year with them. Stay tuned for more.

Raya Terrace Deckchairs, Panarea, Aeolian Islands.

I love these simple subjects that are evocative because of the light and geometrical forms.
Elemental, Euclidean geometry. Most superfluous details suppressed. Minimalist, essential, immediate and arresting. Images that can work just as well in colour or in black and white. Which do you prefer?

Casa Ursula, Panarea

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Yesterday and today I photographed this wonderful house in Iditella for my friend Massimo who is selling it. 28 years ago I also photographed it and published it in a couple of the glossy magazines including on the cover. It has changed a little bit since then but my style of photography - and my level of skill - has changed a lot (for the better!). I was therefore only too happy to photograph it again for him.

It is one of the most beautiful houses in Panarea, with some of the most breathtaking views of the sea towards Basiluzzo, Dattilo and Stromboli. It was designed in the 1970s by Giulio Contarini.

Any queries, please DM me.

Iditella Alleyway, Panarea.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I've photographed this pink wall before. But today the light seemed so evocative that I had to do it again. The bougainvilleas at the bottom of the alleyway were even more in fiery bloom than before, and the sea so calm and rich in its inky blue that I had to subject this wonderful view to the full glory of my medium format camera. This brilliant Sicilian light is what drew me to photography 40 years ago and these simple scenes still give me goosebumps to this day.
