How did the abolitionist movement interact with women's entry into the field of photography? What does the medium have to do with menstrual taboos? Is there even such a thing as a 'feminist image'?

Whether working in the studio or on the front line, women have contributed to every aspect of photography's short history. For some, gender is front and centre; for others, it's merely incidental. All have been affected by the power structures beyond their camera lenses. Far too many have been, and continue to be, overlooked.

Mapping photographic developments against shifting gender rights and roles, Photography - A Feminist History, by Emma Lewis, shines a light on how photography has borne witness to women's movements and made the causes for which they fight visible, and how, in turn, different approaches to feminism have given us ways of understanding photographs.

Authoritative and international in scope , Photography - A Feminist History features over 140 photographers, with ten thematic essays, and extended profiles on 75 key practitioners, many informed by conversations with the author.

Huge congratulations to Mara Leite, winner of UK Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021. The book to accompany the awards featuring award winning images from across 7 categories is released on Thursday (28th) and is available to pre-order.

There will also be an exhibition touring the U.K. which kicks off at London Bridge station on the 15 November.

Mara Leite is the winner of Landscape Photographer of the Year 2021! Huge congratulations to Mara who captured this image titled 'Morning at Countryside' in Halnaker, West Sussex.

Awards founder Charlie Waite said “With the glorious ring lighting and splash of golden light at the top, there is a sense of security and protection as much as secrecy that emerges from this delicate photograph where we are beckoned to go forward. Despite the gate at the far end, perhaps there is an additional feeling that one would never wish to reach it”

Urban Photography by Tim Cornbill

From cityscapes to street corners: a complete guide to shooting in towns.

The urban environment offers a whole host of subjects to photograph, even in the smallest of towns. In the time it takes to walk a street or two, you can photograph panoramic skylines, people up close, at work or play, abstract architectural details, frenetic street activity and peaceful park scenes. You can capture elements of the past and present through the city's architecture in one carefully composed street scene, then, within minutes, frame up the most recognisable landmark in the city.

Fifty Pioneers Defining Photography for the Twenty-First Century in collaboration with Tate.

In the last century, photography was always novel. Now, it feels like our world is over-saturated with images. In the 21st century, what can photography do that is new?

This extensively illustrated survey answers that question, presenting fifty photographers from around the world who are defining photography today. Their styles, formats, and interpretations of the medium vary widely, but in each case, the work featured in this book represents photography doing what it has always done best: finding new ways to tell stories, and new stories to tell.

Artists featured include Nan Goldin, Wolfgang Tillmans, Hassan Hajjaj, Andreas Gursky, Juno Calypso, Ryan McGinley, Zanele Muholi, Shirin Neshat, Catherine Opie, Martin Parr, Cindy Sherman, Hiroshi Sugimoto and Juergen Teller.
