Soul Films

Soul Films Soul Films create personal documentary videos, that celebrate and preserve the memory of someone who has died or is reaching end of life.

Our team of experienced filmmakers, will sensitively interview friends, family and colleagues about the subject of the film as well as gather visual memories, to then create an intimate 7-10 minute film of their life. The viewer will gain a glimpse into who the person was, their values, significant milestones, the people they touched and the life they led. The process of making the video creates a

n opportunity for people to come together and collectively remember. People have said that reflecting on the person's life helped their grieving process. A Soul film can be viewed through a unique QR code that can be placed in a significant public space, whereby commemorating a link between that location and the person. This broadens the potential for the film to reach a wide variety of people, helping to keep their legacy alive. If you are interested in making a Soul Film please get in touch

On Friday 18 November at 19:00 GMT Sybil Ah-Mayne and Wendy Pye will talk about their new initiative Soul Films

Sybil and Wendy founded Soul Films in 2020 after the sudden death of two close friends. They had the idea to make a short personal documentary video celebrating each of their friends' lives.

When the video was completed they placed a plaque with a unique QR code link to view the film at a significant public location. This created a lasting legacy for people to continue finding out about their friends and their connection to that place. Through the filmmaking process they also discovered providing a sensitive space for friends and family to collectively remember can also help with their grieving process.

From these experiences the inspiration for Soul Films was born.

Lifting the Lid is an annual, online, international festival of death and dying that we aim to be free* for all to attend, now in its second year. You can join us from 18-20 November 2022 to choose from 100+ different discussions, performances, book readings, workshops and much more.

Due to the phenomenal response we have already reached our capacity of Free Audience Tickets.

As the festival is unfunded, in order to keep registration open we have had to add a small charge of £2.50 per audience registration. We hope you understand this is to cover the costs we are charged. You will also have access to the replay area of the festival until November 2023 to catch up on anything you miss.

Register for your ticket.
