Snapping UK Lived in the UK from 2016 to 2021. I took 90K photographs. I've returned for a seven week holiday that is nearing its end. Lets see what happens!

One of the six ravens at the Tower of London, UK.

The myth is that one of King Charles II's astronomers complained the ravens and their mess interfered with his observation. King Charles II was warned that the tower would collapse into dust and the monarchy would fall.

Charles, who had not desire to travel again, decided the ravens--six in number--would remain.

BTW: The observatory was moved to Greenwich.

This is an attempt to capture the ceiling of the Banqueting Hall, designed by Ingino Jones and completed in 1622. The Rubens ceiling was installed in 1636.

Royal Historic Palaces restored the Banqueting Hall in the past couple of years. They improved the interpretation and hired a very knowledgeable staff. What stayed the same: bean bags where I could sink down and admire the ceiling from the floor. I didn't have the nerve to move my bean bag to get a perfect shot.

Instead, I sat there imagining the diplomcatic receptions and the masques during the 1600s. I pushed aside the image of King Charles I awaiting his ex*****on.

Then I chatted with the staff, observed items excavated, and wandered some more, photographing from various angles.

I walked as quickly as I could to the loggia in the Italianate Garden at Hever Castle to escape the third or maybe fourth downpour of the day. The rain was falling on the other side of the loggia, but blue sky lingered over the pond.
