LONDON—Last night, transformed into a sold-out, sweat-drenched den of punk rock mayhem, and boy, was it a ride. Four bands took the stage, each one proving that if the music doesn’t kill you, the venue’s structural pillars just might.
kicked off the night with a blistering set that defied the laws of speed and physics. The band’s ferocity was only matched by their bassist’s unfortunate encounter with a pillar. He made friends with it knee-first, but true to the punk spirit, a couple of warm beers later, he was back in action. If this band’s future is anything like their bassist’s pain tolerance, it’s going to be unstoppable.
Next up was , who took the baton and sprinted with it. Their high-energy performance turned the temperature up another notch. The crowd, already lubricated with copious amounts of sweat and alcohol, started getting more involved. There was more moshing, more yelling, and overall, more chaos—just the way we like it.
By the time hit the stage, I was as excited as a kid in a candy store. Or, more accurately, an adult in a vodka store. Belvedere delivered a set that was as perfect as the vodka of the same name. The crowd went nuts, I went nuts, and I’m pretty sure the guy next to me went nuts too, but it might have just been the heat stroke.
Finally, took the stage, and if there was still a roof left, they blew it right off. Their set was a blend of classic hits and fresh tracks, a concoction that proved irresistible. Guitarist Chris decided to take his talents into the crowd and promptly got lost, but with some amateur crowd-sourced GPS, we guided him back to the stage.
All in all, it was a perfect night of music, mayhem, and minor injuries. A huge shoutout to the promoters for putting together such a killer lineup and to The New Cross Inn for being the hottest, sweatiest, and most perilous venue around.
