📸 Tip of the day: Look for shadows!

When you're out with your camera, don't automatically avoid strong sunlight.

Look at the shadows it's creating. They can add shapes, patterns and contrast and make a much more interesting photograph.

I spotted this beautiful example while walking around Frigiliana. 🇪🇸

Sometimes, the light is the picture.

A little reminder that you never know where your camera is going to take you… 📷

I’d heard about a beautiful viaduct close to where I’m staying in Spain, so I had to go and investigate.

I was determined to photograph it - but then I spotted something else along the way and got completely distracted! 😂

And that’s one of the things I love about travel photography. It’s not always about following the plan. It’s about being curious, noticing what’s around you and being ready when something catches your eye.

You might set out looking for one photograph and come home with something completely different.

That’s the kind of photography I want to share here - real, curious, creative and achievable, whether you’re just starting out or have been taking photographs for years.

If that sounds like your kind of adventure, follow my page 'Through her lens: Beyond the Souks' and join me here.

I’ll be sharing photography inspiration, practical tips, travel stories and behind-the-scenes from my women-only photography retreats around Arab-speaking and Arab-influenced destinations.

And there’s plenty more to come… 📷 🌍

When was the last time you did something purely for you?

Not for your family.
Not for your work.
Not because someone else needed you.

Just because it made you feel good.

I think women often get so used to being busy, responsible and looking after everyone else that we forget how important it is to pause, be curious and do something that feeds our own creativity.

Photography can be a wonderful way to do that.

It makes you slow down. Look closer. Notice the light, the people, the details and the moments that might otherwise pass you by. And when you travel with a camera, you experience a place in a completely different way.

That’s the thinking behind my women-only photography retreats and guided photography tours.

Small groups. Inspiring destinations. Time to learn, create, explore and simply enjoy being somewhere new - surrounded by women who want to do the same.

You don’t need to be an expert photographer.

You just need to be curious enough to come.

Give yourself permission to step away from the everyday.
To learn something new.
To create.
To explore.
And to do something that’s just for you. 📸

Morocco is where we begin in April 2027, with more destinations to follow.

Maybe it’s time you came with me.

Marhaba! 👋

If you’re new here, I wanted to tell you a little more about me and why I created my photography retreats.

I’ve spent almost 30 years working as a professional photographer, and travel has always been a huge part of my life. I wanted to bring those two things together in a way that gives women the chance to travel, learn, create and connect.

My retreats are about so much more than taking photographs.

📷 Learn and develop your photography skills
🌍 Discover fascinating Arab-speaking and Arab-influenced destinations
🍋 Experience local food, culture and traditions
✨ Enjoy beautiful, carefully chosen experiences
🧖‍♀️ Have time to slow down, relax and enjoy yourself
👭 Travel with a small group of like-minded creative women

They’re designed to be supportive and welcoming, whether you’re a beginner looking to build confidence or an experienced photographer wanting fresh inspiration.

And because the groups are female-only and limited to a maximum of 10 women, there’s plenty of time for personal guidance, conversation and connection.

My first retreat is Morocco in April 2027, followed by more incredible destinations.

If this sounds like the kind of adventure you’ve been looking for, follow me and join me on the journey. ❤️

We naturally think of travel photography in colour - bright light, warm tones, rich textures and vibrant surroundings.

But sometimes a photograph just works better in black and white.

Monochrome can be particularly useful when the midday sun is harsh and the light feels less than ideal. Strip away the colour and suddenly you’re looking at light, shadow, shape and texture instead.

And it doesn’t stop there. Black and white can be incredibly dramatic for night and moonlit photography too. 🌙

It’s just one of the techniques we explore and practise on my women-only travel photography retreats.

I’ll be taking small groups to destinations including Morocco, Egypt, Jordan, Malta and Oman - places with beautiful golden hours, but also plenty of challenging midday light.

Because great travel photography isn’t always about waiting for perfect conditions. It’s about knowing what to do with the light you’ve got.

Fancy treating yourself to a photography adventure?

Sometimes, the best photographs happen when you simply stop. 🌅📷

I’m out in Torrox, Spain, waiting for the light to do its thing.

Sunset photography isn’t just about pointing your camera at the sun. It’s about watching what happens to the landscape, noticing how the colours change, looking for interesting foregrounds and knowing when to press the shutter.

And sometimes… it’s about being patient!

This is exactly the kind of approach I love to share on my photography retreats.

We’ll explore beautiful places, but more importantly, I’ll help you slow down, see differently and become more confident with your camera.

Because travel photography isn’t about getting the “perfect” shot.

It’s about capturing how a place felt.

Post Production matters.

Not just to improve the crop, the colours and the textures etc but sometimes a simple edit can make all the difference. By removing the branding from the window, one doesn't focus on the text in the picture (which is what our brain naturally wants to do), but rather the concept and overall framing of the shot.

All my retreats will include a post retreat critique session as well as a 2 hour virtual editing course.
