I clicked these photos ten years ago at Kolkata Death Fest featuring “Funerus” - this is a short review I gave
“What a night! Funerus absolutely decimated the venue, unleashing a mosh pit that grew more violent with every song. The theatre seats, unfortunately, bore the brunt of the chaos.
Despite being cut short by time constraints, the band’s performance was unforgettable. I was so caught up in the energy that I decided to play it safe, staying to one side of the stage to get these photos.
A huge thanks to Funerus for an incredible show.” Sept 12, 2015

And to Jill, may you rest in peace.

have been an die hard fan of iron maiden ever since I was 5 years old in 1985 and this is the second time I am seeing my all time favs live. the first time was in 2007 when they debuted in India and even though that was a pretty special moment for me, last nights gig in front of nearly 80k fans at their home WESTHAM stadium was truly unforgettable.

why are they such a big deal? they have been around for 50 years! have released a total of 41 albums (17 studio, 13 live, 4 EP's, 7 compilations) and have done this with ZERO support from any TV or radio . they are arguably one of the most influential bands out there and are responsible for thousands of bands and musicians we hear and see today. they have a rabid cult following second to none and even if you have not heard their music you definitely have seen people walk around with the tee shirts. and they have sold a total of over 200 million albums worldwide making them one of the most successful artists in rock and heavy metal.

Steve was in form as always, and the guitar attack of Dave and Adrian was pure magic. bruce vocals sounded the best for a 66 year old and the energy he had on stage was incredicble. Simon replacing Nicko was probably the best decision and the crowd support he received was heartwarming . the whole set list was from 1980 to 1992 and I felt a little bad for Janick as he managed to play backing guitars all the time while Dave and Adrian effortlessly traded solos. however during the encore they did play Fear of the Dark letting Janick loose and making him do his wild thing on the guitar!
last nights show was indeed for the books. unforgettable and I am so glad I managed to see the band at their 50th anniversary world tour , a band that has been with me in my darkest times and influenced me to pick up the guitar when I was 8. the fact that by age 16 I could play 50 iron maiden songs note for note and currently have 5 iron maiden tattoos on my person just shows the influence they have had on me and continue to do so.

MASSACRE brought 40 YEARS of pure evil death metal to Ignite Club! 💀🔥 Legends since 1984 – and they ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED their Indian debut! 🏆

Delayed my return flight to London by 3 WEEKS for this? WORTH. EVERY. SECOND. Another one of those “never did I think I would see them live in India” moment !

Having just caught Atmosfear in Mumbai at Domination: The Deathfest last month, seeing them again at Bangalore Death Fest III was an absolute sonic treat! This three-piece death metal powerhouse knows how to deliver. Their older tracks absolutely shredded the crowd .

While I initially wished the sound had a bit more punch, the second half of their set was pure annihilation. The frontman even jokingly challenged the crowd with, “Bangalore, do you even mosh?” – YES WE DO!!! and that was all it took for everyone to unleash!

Still a bit bummed about the bright stage lighting (maybe it was for all those phone pics?), but it didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying their set. They absolutely ripped through us with their older material! 🤘

What a killer start to Bangalore Death Fest III with Regicide! This local OSDM supergroup, featuring members from Kryptos, Illucia, and Aempyrean, absolutely crushed it. It was my first time seeing them live, and they definitely didn’t disappoint.

The sound felt a little off at the very beginning, but honestly, by their third song, it didn’t even matter. And how awesome was it to see Nolan Lewis from Kryptos jump on stage for a cover of Cancer – a clear nod to one of their top influences!

The crowd was just warming up, and while numbers looked a bit worrying at first, it was a Friday night, so more people surely rolled in later. Only question: why was the stage so brightly lit? Regardless, an awesome set all around!

Closing out the final chapter of Domination: The Deathfest were none other than Godless from Hyderabad—stepping in as the headlining act with some serious shoes to fill after Gutslit’s earth-shattering set. But make no mistake—Godless didn’t just follow, they leveled the place.

This was my first time catching them live, having missed their earlier shows in Bangalore—and damn, was it worth the wait. Celebrating over a decade in the scene, these monsters have taken their sonic assault across Europe multiple times, and now they’re back home, fiercer than ever, with their latest EP Genesis of Decay in tow.

From the first note, they launched into a bone-crunching set that had the crowd eating out of their hands. Even after three relentless hours of non-stop heaviness, the audience showed no signs of fatigue—if anything, they were hungrier. Every riff, every blast beat, every growl hit like a war cry, and the crowd roared right back, demanding more.

By the time the dust settled, I was part of the zombie brigade making the long, post-gig trek to find an Uber back to Borivali at 1 AM—ears ringing, body aching, and soul absolutely wrecked in the best way possible. A perfect end to a night that celebrated everything brutal, beautiful, and unbreakable about the Indian death metal scene.

Without a doubt, the heaviest hitters at the final chapter of Domination: The Deathfest were Gutslit. No contest. These veterans of the Indian death metal scene—nearing two decades of sonic brutality—unleashed absolute mayhem on stage, proving once again why they’ve carried the flag at some of the biggest deathfests across the globe.

I only managed to snap one clear photo of their drummer, who played like he had four arms—just an unrelenting barrage on the kit, machine-like but with pure feral energy. It was beautiful chaos.

The band came out swinging with savage riffs, colliding head-on with Aditya’s signature gutturals and pig squeals, ripping through the venue like a sonic chainsaw. The energy in the room was at its peak—walls shaking, heads banging, limbs flying. And of course, the ever-legendary Sikh mosher holding it down at the corner of the stage, like a one-man pit commander.

To top it all off, Gutslit brought out the vocalist and guitarist of Devoid—another legendary force in Indian metal—for a surprise guest spot. That moment sent the crowd into full-blown frenzy, a true crossover of giants that paid homage to the roots and raised the bar all at once.

A perfectly timed stage dive, followed by clouds of spray can mist over the crowd, only added to the madness. It was gritty, wild, and straight-up unforgettable.

Also worth noting—the sheer number of Gutslit tees in the crowd was wild. A sea of fans, fully repping. This wasn’t just a set—it was a statement. Gutslit came, crushed, and left the stage scorched. Absolutely phenomenal.

Next up at the final chapter of Domination: The Deathfest was none other than Primitiv—playing what would be their last ever show. This set wasn’t just another performance; it was a heartfelt tribute to the man who lit the torch 25 years ago—Nithin Rajan. A legend remembered, and a legacy honored in the most fitting way possible.

It had been a long time coming for me personally—my last memory of seeing Riju on stage was when Dying Embrace (my band) shared the lineup with his band Albatross at the inaugural Bangalore Open Air back in 2012. Seeing him again after all these years was surreal—and well worth the wait.

Primitiv’s set was nothing short of monumental. Heavy, groove-laden, and epically atmospheric, they held the crowd in the palm of their hand. With the house nearly packed, the energy was electric, and the crowd gave back just as much as they received.

Adding to the gravity of the set were guest vocalists Aditya Barve from Gutslit, bringing raw brutality, and the banshee wail of Biposhree, who added a haunting edge to the tribute. Emotions ran high, and by the time the last note rang out, the air was thick with nostalgia, love, and respect.

It was more than just a gig. It was a farewell. A tribute. A celebration of Indian death metal history—and a night that will be etched in memory forever.
