4 years ago after getting so fed up of the never ending weeds and bamboo grasses spreading - it was time to take drastic action. This garden is south facing so everything in this side of the house needed to be resilient to drought and winds (it’s very exposed) - almost like a coastal garden without the salt! So - lavenders, grasses, Mediterranean herbs (rosemary, thyme, oregano), cotton lavender, Russian sage, and bamboo in pots plus pots of geraniums and climbers. It’s been a work in progress but finally looks established! We are so happy with this space - and hope this view stays for many years to come.

“Dream Time” ~ this is how I think of foxes - peaceful, safe and not threatened by humans. But I know that this is a dream.

So much has changed…I know I’m not alone in feeling this longing nostalgia for what was once considered normal. Humans living alongside animals - intertwined with the natural world, harmonious. Now we have to fight for these natural spaces - the loss of habitat here in the UK is horrific. All I can see is greed and destruction happening everywhere…and what has happened to democracy? I can only hope that somewhere, deep in the forest, there are foxes that sleep like this - without fear.

There have been some magical encounters in the woods - moments of connection, fleeting, but the feeling that’s left…never leaves. A buzzard flew through the branches, swooping, looping back…its cry eerie in the quiet. And then it was gone.

One painting of a few (20cm x 20cm, acrylic on birch panel) and I’m celebrating the fact that I am now well on the road to actually having a collection to show !

Sometimes this moment happens in the woods. Fleeting but it always leaves me with a feeling of awe. This is part of a new painting and I’m so excited to be painting again after a few months of “life” getting in the way.
