My childhood during the 90s was the age of Indiana Jones, Back to The Future, ET etc. Mainstream media that opened my mind to extraordinary stories and escaping from normality for 1.5hrs at a time.
When it came to games, my time had always been about the home consoles such as NES and the Sega Mega Drive where the playground talks revolve around the standard Super Mario and Sonic affairs. Then when it came to my secondary school years (high school) the trend continued with the PS1 and Saturn, however a small group of us discovered PC gaming and found a new game genre known as the adventure / point and click games.
Broken Sword was amongst the games on the PC store shelf and playing it through my enormous CRT screen at home hah changed my perspective on games as a whole. Every morning at school before class, my mates would talk about where in the story we got to in the game like a Netflix sitcom. Then on numerous occasions, someone will get stuck at some point and we eagerly provide tips to one another in order to show off on who was the one who solved the puzzle.
There was something really unique about Broken Sword where that level of storytelling and excitement was captured in the same vain as a Hollywood film and made me realise that games can really go beyond just a CRT screen experience.
So my passion for games has come full circle where I can happily say that I've contributed to the development of Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars: Reforge which I'm so very proud of the team at Revolution Software Ltd for
It feels like being back in those school shoes again for another time.
The release is out tomorrow and I hope you all can enjoy it.
