The Dallmeyer 2” f/1.5 ‘pre-series’ cine lenses, is an extraordinary British uncoated optic from the 1920s, and regarded by collectors as the forebear to the highly sought after and ultra fast Dallmeyer family. and lenses.

The pre-series, just marked 2” f/1.5 with the classic Dallmeyer script logo, is a lens very few have ever been lucky enough to come across, let alone fit to their camera, and take for a walk. In raw and unedited DNG format, Its wonderful to see the rendering when shot wide open; completely enchanting and unique.

A timely consignment – today, as America celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day, this vintage print of MLK Jr. by Black Star photographer Charles Moore arrived on our desks. Moore, an Alabama-born photographer who took some of the most defining images of the Civil Rights movement, was at the Montgomery Courthouse on 3 September 1958, when King was arrested on a loitering charge. Moore followed King and the arresting police officers to the local police station, where he captured this image; to the right, King’s wife Coretta Scott King looks on.

A vintage print bearing the handling marks of a lifetime of use, this print is signed and dated by Moore, and bears his Black Star credit stamp on the verso. It will be included in our upcoming Fine Photographs sale, taking place 22 May – open for consignments now!

With the final day of viewing for tomorrows fine photographs auction now behind us, I’m delighted to share a couple of behind the scenes images I took today when unframing one of the most impressively executed platinum prints I have ever been lucky enough to offer for sale. Irving Penn ladies and gents… a true master of the medium 👌

THREE RISSANI WOMEN WITH BREAD, 1971. Platinum-palladium print, printed 1980 on Rive paper [single coating, multiple printing], flush-mounted to aluminium, image size 55.2 x 49.5cm, signed, titled, dated, editioned 32/32 and annotated by the photographer in pencil, with the photographer’s ‘Penn/Condé Nast’ copyright credit reproduction limitation stamp, edition stamp, and process stamp verso. Archivally mounted and framed, frame size 80.5 x 74.5cm.
