One year ago today — Friday 10th May — a rare G5 Geomagnetic Storm lit up skies across the globe, from the UK and Europe to both North and South America.

Jet-lagged after flying back from Thailand, I rallied to the North Coast and witnessed something unforgettable.

No one could have predicted the scale of it - vibrant pillars overhead, colours visible to the naked eye.

This shot was taken from the edge of the Giant’s Causeway, surrounded by nearly 100 other photographers and aurora chasers.

The atmosphere was electric.

Nature at its most powerful has a way of bringing us all together. 🌌

Bright Lights in the North

Last night, there was a stunning display of the Aurora, as seen in several news reports. While I didn’t go out to witness it firsthand, I wanted to share one of the many photos I captured on the night of May 10th this year.

I wasn’t active on social media at the time, having just returned from Thailand less than 24 hours before and bailed up to the North Coast to ensure I got a photo of it.

With 90% of the population posting aurora photos from the 10th and 11th — it was so vivid that even phone cameras could capture it — I decided to wait. Like many others, I was mesmerized by what was probably the most spectacular auroral display in recent memory, one that didn’t require a long trip to experience.

Instead of following the crowd, I aimed my camera differently, letting Lady Aurora set the scene, rather than forcing the iconic causeway into the frame.

"Trust me, it's paradise...Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience."

This was a surreal moment, seeing THE beach, known as Maya Bay. We didn't think we'd get to it because of the crowds, but we got a sunrise boat and were one of the first onto the island and beach; the sand was like flour, the views were spectacular as sunrise was starting, the experience was perfection.

It's been a minute since I've uploaded a photo! I've been going through the tonnes of images from the trip to Thailand and finally getting round to uploading them.

This is James Bond Island, known as Khao Phing Kan, it got the name James Bond when it was featured in The Man With the Golden Gun.
