ROCKING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS:
Nature put on a spectacular show for us all last night, lighting up the sky with something normally reserved for those who who travel hundreds of miles north of here!

OLD TOWN MARGATE:
I have always loved the Old Town, but even more so since its rejuvenation over the last decade or so. These days it throbs with a rather arty / hippster vibe but still retains some smashing old buildings such as the one occupied by SH Cuttings the jeweler which has been serving Margate since 1880.

When you’re there, look around and look UP! And then grab a cappucino in a independant cafe or a home made ice cream before visiting the bookshops and art galleries that fill this area. 😊

RECULVER RADIANT:
Reculver Towers always bring something new for the keen photographer. Marking the northern outlet of the once busy Wantsum Channel shipping shortcut that joined Sandwich to the North Sea, it has been the site of a Roman Fort, an Anglo-Saxon monastery and a thriving village that is now largely lost to the sea.

Of course, for so many of us it has also been the site of early courtships, first dates, bike rides and picnics, and it still stands as a liminal place of pilgrimage for all of us to discover.

LITTLE BALLS OF LIGHT…
Margate seafront has always been about lights. My favourites are the beautiful Victorian sculpted ball lights that dot the seafront, supported by the entwined tails of two large fish. Commissioned in 1878 and known as the 'Sturgeon Lights' they have been lighting our way for almost 150 years.

Sometimes the harsh neon of the arcades gets a bit much. If so, just cross the road and the atmosphere changes, and the walk home on a warm night is cheered by the globes of gentle luminance lighting the way. 💡

THE £20 LIGHTHOUSE…
The original lighthouse on the harbour arm in Margate was built in 1829 but was destroyed in the great North Sea Flood of 1953.

The current replacement was built in 1955 and is featured on the current £20 note along with the Turner Gallery! 😮

LAST HURRAH OF SUMMER!
Margate Old Town was buzzing at the weekend, as the sun slid below the horizon in a dazzling Margate Sunset. The restaurants were full, the music was throbbing and people were happy.

Love the creativity and colours of the shops and restaurants in Old Margate!
