Whispers in the Stone - May 23rd

Hidden among the weathered cliffs of North Berwick, this secluded bench sits quietly beneath a maze of ancient stone, gazing out across the cold, endless water. From a distance, it appears to be nothing more than a peaceful resting place carved naturally into the rugged coastline somewhere to pause, breathe, and listen to the distant rhythm of the sea against the rocks. The dark volcanic stone surrounding it feels timeless, shaped by centuries of crashing waves, salt air, and harsh Scottish winds.

But the closer you move toward the bench, the atmosphere begins to change. Pressed faintly into the wood are mysterious handprints, almost hidden against the dark surface, as though unseen visitors left behind traces of themselves before disappearing back into the cliffs. They seem out of place yet strangely connected to the landscape, adding an unsettling sense of mystery to an otherwise quiet scene. The bench no longer feels simply inviting it becomes a place of unanswered questions, where nature and human presence blur together. In the silence of the rocks and sea, the handprints feel less like marks and more like whispers from the past, waiting for someone curious enough to notice them.

The Guardian of the Bass Coast

While exploring the rugged shoreline of North Berwick on a sunny afternoon, I stopped to enjoy the fresh sea air and the calm rhythm of the water below. It was then that I noticed something hidden within the cliff face a weathered visage gazing out across the sea. Formed naturally over countless years, the rock seemed to take on the character of an ancient guardian, standing watch over the coast and its ever-changing tides. A fleeting discovery, born from a quiet moment and a curious eye, reminding me that nature often tells its own stories to those who stop long enough to look.

Bridge - May

For this month's bridge challenge, I chose to photograph a river scene framed by two bridges in the distance. Rather than making the bridges the dominant subject, I used them as subtle focal points that guide the viewer's eye through the image. The calm water creates strong leading lines, drawing attention towards the centre where the trees and bridges meet. The overcast sky softens the light and enhances the muted tones of the landscape, creating a peaceful atmosphere. This challenge encouraged me to think more carefully about composition and how bridges can be used not only as subjects themselves but also as elements that connect and structure a photograph.

Purple - May

For this colour challenge, I found beauty in the countless blooms of California lilac, each tiny flower adding its own brushstroke to a sea of violet. Standing among them felt like stepping into a dream painted in shades of lavender and twilight—a reminder that nature creates the most breathtaking color palettes of all. 💜✨

Musselburgh at Low Tide - May

Low tide at Musselburgh Harbour brings the shoreline to life. From striking public art and delicate seashell patterns to weathered driftwood resting on the sand, every detail tells part of the coast's story. Framed by dramatic skies and far-reaching views across the Firth of Forth, it's a reminder that beauty is often found in the quiet moments between the tides. 🌊📷

Sea of Shadows and Gold - April

As the sun sets over North Berwick, the sky comes alive with golden light breaking through layers of dark clouds, casting dramatic rays across the calm sea. The quiet water, distant boats, and soft reflections create a moment of pure serenity, where nature feels both powerful and peaceful at once. It’s the kind of evening that makes you stop, breathe, and simply admire the beauty of the coast — a perfect blend of shadow, light, and the timeless charm of a North Berwick sunset.

Where Stone Meets Sky - March

Golden light, old stone, and crisp Scottish air, standing beneath felt like stepping into another century. The fountain sang quietly below while the castle watched over the city from above, wrapped in shadow and sunlight at the same time. There’s something about Edinburgh that feels timeless, where every street, every stone, and every view carries a story. For a moment, time stood still, and the whole city felt like something pulled straight from a storybook.”

Orange -February

Taken along the shoreline at South Queensferry Harbour, this scene captures the quiet atmosphere of the Firth of Forth beneath the towering bridges that connect Edinburgh to Fife. The dark volcanic rocks, soft sand, and calm winter water created a naturally muted palette, while the orange lichen scattered across the shoreline added unexpected warmth and texture. I photographed this as part of my colour theme challenge, focusing on how even subtle tones can stand out against the dramatic industrial backdrop and ever-changing Scottish skies.

Will be more up tomorrow
