Today, I will be live-streaming the protest against the Wensum Link in Norwich on my YouTube channel, The Grey Area.

What is the Wensum Link?

The Wensum - or Western - Link is a road that will be built between the A47 and A1067 in the West of Norwich.

The reason for this is the significant amount of congestion and rat-running within some communities.

Approval was received by the Department for Transport in October.

Many small villages seem to be for the Link being introduced, for example, those in Ringland.
This is because the amount of traffic that comes down the small roads, occasionally even speeding through the villages.

I know this from speaking with some from Ringland.

The budget for the Western Link is approximately £273.9m, though this could increase.

Why is it opposed?

Many oppose this Link due to the concern of how it will affect the environment. There are fears that it will destroy a number of vital wildlife habitats - woodlands, trees, grassland, chalk streams and floodplains.

The destruction of the environment may lead to the reduced reproduction of many species.
One of the largest fears is that this will destroy the habitat of the newly-discovered ‘super-colony’ of rare Barbastelle Bats.
Animals may also be injured or killed by vehicles.

Dozens of birds in the US and Canada are to be renamed based on their habitats and traits, rather than a person’s name.

One example of this change will be the Wilson’s Snipe, named after naturalist Alexander Wilson. Up to 80 other birds will be renamed.

This comes after CEO Judith Scarl, of the American Ornithological Society claimed:
“Exclusionary naming conventions developed in the 1800s, clouded by racism and misogyny, don't work for us today, and the time has come for us to transform this process and redirect the focus to the birds, where it belongs.”

A Pro-Palestinian protester told my mum to f**k off, and a small commotion started, which is when I began recording. The man then proceeded to say something (translation please?) and pretended to spit on her.

Police then tried to make us go towards the protesters, having no awareness of our safety, or lack of, around the gathering.

Free Palestine Protest At Norwich Hall

On Sunday 5th of November, I went in another attempt to record a protest at Norwich City Hall, this time a demonstration surrounding the Israel-Palestine conflict, of which I have refused to take a stand to either 'side' due to my lack of knowledge on the subject.
Some protesters, such as Anti-Fascists among the crowd, started to block my camera and filming, and even obstructed other journalists, even those who are in support of the protest.

Despite most having an unwelcoming presence (as usual), some protesters came to me to tell me that they don't hate me, and that they respect my opinions, with some even pulling me in for a hug! Some have also written to me directly to apologise for how I was treated, that they were given an opinionated view of me, and that, after looking through my account, they believe we could get along well.

Pro-Refugee Protester comes into the Thatchers Needle (Diss, Norfolk), seemingly in an attempt to antagonise Anti-Mass Immigration Protesters.
Rather than fully rising to the situation, those inside of the pub, and eventually including the police, removed the disturber, saying that he should not be doing this inside of the pub.

21-year-old illegal immigrant Dekan Saed, from Iraq, has been jailed for 11 years after supplying a 20-year-old woman with alcohol and co***ne before strangling and ra**ng her in a flat.

Saed had denied the accusations on November 13 last year, but a jury found him guilty of five offences of r**e earlier this year. He was cleared of false imprisonment, strangulation, oral s*x and assault by pe*******on.

He also signed the S*x Offenders Register and is made the subject of a S*xual Harm Prevention Order.

The victim stated that she is traumatised by what Saed did, and due to this she had lost her job (from time she had taken off) and overdosed.

Saed, who claimed to be scared if he was deported as he feared he would be killed, tried to commit su***de in custody.
