A section of the conversation with in the book ‘On Family’ commissioned by

“It’s all about osmosis - to take things in rather than to drum things in. I always wanted my children to be around Black people, Black culture, Black history and for that to be normal for them, nothing extraordinary. I made sure they knew their family and went to Barbados where my parents are from. I’m a Rasta but they didn’t grow up Rasta, they don’t have dreadlocks or anything, but they’ve always been around me and my culture, whether they identify with it or not, at least they know it’s part of their upbringing and something they can relate to. They have their own path to go down; I didn’t want to set that path for them but for them to know that they can access it if they want to.”

Alongside photographers and curator .brown.31 ‘On Family’ is book that shares the stories of many people from different backgrounds. The complexities of family life and the struggles people have faced.

So so happy to share that ‘On Family’ is out now! I was commissioned by The School of Life to create portraits and talk to people about their experiences, the challenges and complexities of family life.

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the school of life, and to my friends and family who shared such intimate details, for your vulnerability and strength to make this project happen for me.
