Part 1 of setting up my new studio πŸ–ŠοΈπŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨

Moving has felt very chaotic, so I was so grateful to .art for sending me this storage cart to help me get organised.

Now all my supplies have there own space and can be wheeled in and out when I need them 🎨

This corner is now feeling perfectly tranquil for days of creating, now just the rest of the house to go πŸ˜…

Humpbacks will always be my favourite πŸ’™πŸ‹

When I’m asked what my favourite animal is I always find it such a hard question to answer. I love sharks, mantas, and all the weird and wonderful tiny critters. But nothing has ever taken my breath away in quite the same way as seeing a humpback whale emerge from the blue right besides your boat.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to encounter them a few times whilst working at sea. Off the coast of Queensland where we could spot them breaching, Perth where I could hear them singing during dives, and in the Ningaloo where new calves were learning to throw their wrinkly bodies out of the water.

But seeing them in home waters was the most special of all, during the years I spent working in the Hebrides we had some of the most incredible encounters with these ocean giants. Watching them lunge feed for hours on end and even seeing a solo whale bubble netting.

These large magical beings always have my heart, I’ve been thinking about a large humpback piece for a while now, what do you think?

But for now, here’s a little one that will be part of my next original release 🌊

Oceans every day 🌊

Happy World Oceans Day to the big old blue, and those working tirelessly to advocate for it.

The ocean is where my love of the wild really sparked, a place of calm and endless wonder. Whether it be meditating on scuba below the waves or riding out a storm on the back of a boat in the Atlantic, there is no place I feel more content, or more alive.

So here is just a few colours of the ocean, a small snippet of the palette of life that makes this place so special and worth protecting. πŸ’™

Wishing you an otterly wonderful weekend 🧑🦦

The last month has been filled with moving and some drawings I can't reveal just yet. So here is one of my favourites from the last year, the Eurasian otter.

I'd spotted them from the coast a few times whilst living in Scotland, and watching their playful nature was always such a joy πŸͺΈ

I brought back this print to celebrate world otter day, and it can now be found on my website. πŸ–‹

Hi, I'm Rachel πŸ‘‹ I create art inspired by different environments and ecosystems πŸƒπŸͺΈ

Mostly in the oceans, but sometimes on land to!

I didn't study art at university, I studied Zoology, before travelling overseas and spending almost a decade working under water.

The sea and nature is where my soul feels happiest, and I love exploring different parts of the ocean from my studio in ink. πŸ–‹

Stories of places i've visited, places and species I dream of seeing, and your ocean memories too. πŸ’™

As today is World Environment Day, here is a small snippet of my ink and watercolour ecosystems, celebrating the worlds biodiversity 🌊

Each of these art works can be found as limited edition prints on my website πŸ‹

May Mayhem πŸ’™

I dont recommend moving house, and country, at 9 months pregnant - but we did it! Life is still stacked in boxes but it feels very good to be back in Lancashire for this next chapter.

Despite being such a busy month, I did still work on some big projects, which I'll share with you soon!

But here's a little snippet of a month of change, enjoying our last days on our local beach. I was sent the most beautiful gift by a basking shark to treasure forever, to celebrate our time in Scotland. I've worn it every day 🦈

We will definitely always be back up to the Scottish coast, but nows time to finish up some projects before I have a little artist joining me in the studio πŸŒˆπŸ’“

Starting World Oceans Month with World Reef Day πŸͺΈ

The rainforests of the sea, a quarter of all marine species can be found in coral reefs, though they only cover 1% of the ocean floor.

Rainbows of colour, texture, sound and life! Coral reefs are vitally important to the health of the ocean, supporting a huge amount of biodiversity, and providing shelter, nursery grounds and coastal protection.

Reef habitats may be one of my favourite to draw as there are so many colours that can be used.

I'm working on a new, extra large, reef print - here are just some of the species I'll be including! Which reef fish and critters do you think I should add? 🌈

You can find my existing reef collection on my website πŸ’™
