Misguided Microscopy Amateur microscopy ahead, presently using a Journey to the microcosmos microscope and Sony Xperia XZ.

The Macrocosmos sucks so we're going to go explore the Microcosmos!

What do I do on holiday? Collect samples for my microscope of course! Also items for future terrariums when I’m done looking at them under the microscope 😁

So, this is from the river moss sample I accidentally doused with isopropyl alcohol rather than distilled water about a day ago, nothing large moving particularly but it is none the less heaving with life. I am always amazed by the micro worlds resilience! I did rince it immediately so I guess i saved some of them or they were in egg or cyst states.

I'll be back to microscopy soon hopefully with a lot of the busy period out of the way, our house is fairly sorted out and our lodger is well situated, so I'm going to try and take some more time for myself and spam you all with the world of the micro again soon!

I finally found a tardigrade for my dad while we were away in whales, I took a tiny sample of every piece of moss I could find walking in a little forest near Ammanford, my determination paid off!
Took me a little while to get this uploaded as I was a busy bee but hoping to find time for my microscope and the microcosmos again soon!

Not sure what this is, some kind of foot of an insect or similar perhaps? I forget what size it was at, 100 or 400 times magnification. Fancinating though.
Found from a sand sample from Rhossili Bay.

I believe this is an Anurida maritime, a marine springtail! Common across the British Isles, I found this one on Rhossili Bay beach. Absolutely stunning on a dark field. I'm a big fan of springtails, both as a reptile and amphibian keeper and amateur microscopist. The world and my bioactive tanks would be poorer places with out these little clean up heroes.

Not microscopic I know, but sometimes it's good to look up and take in the macrocosmos that you're finding your samples in. A lot of my in coming pictures and videos are from my holiday in Wales. Rhossili Bay is beautiful, both at 0x magnification and 1000x.

Microscopic shell, either living, dead or a fossil. Found in a sand sample on Rhossili Bay beach. Had a great holiday in Wales, lots of samples brought back! The other particles are sand.

Attempting dark field, heck its hard to focus these things. I think I may need a phone upgrade this one isn't the best for the mount.
Still, looks like a really busy galaxy, thought it was cool I hope you enjoy. No idea what anything is here.

No idea why but couldn't get instagram to post this one to here as well, so here's a link to the video, some unidentified critter here, I think possibly related to gastrotrix family but I'm not 100% on that.
I also cracked my first cover slip today. Rest in pieces, first cover slip.
