A rare spare hour to go through the eclipse photos that I took down at my local beach. I wasn't particularly after an eclipse shot but was more interested in what people were doing during the eclipse, what they would do when it went really dark.

In the event it didn't really get dark at all, only about 92% coverage as you know and people carried on surfing, chatting or playing in the shore break as if the planets aligned every single day of the week.

So the most noticeable thing was how rich the colours got. More like a tropical sunset than summer UK. And then it was back to a normal sunny day.

I met some local legends and friends from afar who also chose the same beach for the event. In fact just knowing that a certain collective had come together added a fantastic good vibe to the proceedings.

The sun settled brightly in the west , creating some great silhouettes of people enjoying the beach, playing in the sea and the good-vibe atmosphere of day.

A soft misty sunrise produced golden colours on the glass-like water. Later the land mist swept into the bay, obscuring the Mount and came bearing down on Newlyn harbour to engulf adventurous early morning fishermen leaving port

Not many waves, but well done, Cornwall!

Sunday at the Sea Salts and Sail festival over in Mousehole, a showcase of traditional sailing skills by a veritable panoply of wooden sailing craft. Us landlubbers watched the mesmerising boat jumble do its thing from the harbour wall while foot-tapping to the rhythm of several, mostly unseen, shadowed bands hiding from the sun under a series of white tents.

A fantastic and calm day out, but with enough wind to send an engineless lugger silently whipping through the comparatively stationary flotilla at full tilt, close hauled on a starboard tack. The Parade of Sail was so silent and graceful bar the odd creak of a mast and the whispering of wind through the stays.

An excellent day out!

Loving how the morning sun gives a sepia tone to light in Cornwall in that first shot. This effect seems to happen in some places but not in others. Kind of reminiscent of the old 'to***co' filters that advertising photographers seemed to have a passion for in the days of slides.

Have you noticed this light anywhere else?

I don't post as often as they recommend but the comparative quiet from me on social media platforms has been less to do with a lack of desire to share and more to do with work and other parts of life getting in the way.

With a brief respite from work and not much surf to chase, I've found time to share some images that I've been meaning to share from recent (and not so recent shoots) .

I think the surfer in the epic dawn light is perhaps you or the .earplugs crew will correct me? Also amazed at how Moulded ear plugs stay in during the plentiful duck dives and heavy hold-downs when swimming with my camera!

Down to Sennen for the sunset last night and a swim among the waves with the water camera.

Folk stayed late on the beach as the heat failed to dissipate. BBQ smoke vied for aerial supremacy with a pervasive haze as the sun sank lower into the horizon cloud layer.

I exited the water much warmer than I went in. Although this was probably more to do with the workout of trying to get into the right position on the waves in the rippy shorebreak than the continental heat alone.

Great fun and a few keepers for the next Waves calendar, I am already itching to get out to the beach again . But that itch might also just be the plentiful sand inside my wetsuit!

Spent a brilliant couple of days on Scilly last week shooting some pictures for an upcoming article, of which more later. Took the Helicopter over in brilliant sunshine and had a window seat to click away at my home town as we flew over, fantastic!

Can you see your house?

Then I noticed that strange spiral in the bottom of the first picture, just off the Jubilee Pool and Penzance Harbour. No idea what it is but it looks like some kind of sand storm whirlpool. No boats or jet skis nearby to cause such an effect while turning though. Strange.

Anyone else know what's going on there? A sewage outlet? Maybe Surfers Against Sewage might know. Grabbed another couple of shots but it was too rough to see anything on the return trip.

Strange? Or merely unexplained? Do tell.
