Repurposing a redundant old ceramic water trough from the Paddocks in the Park and installing it into the Garden. Both the Park’s volunteer teams involved as the Ranger team got it ready for extraction and the Builders carried out some repairs in the workshop and then installed it in the Garden. Over the the Gardeners to turn it into a wildlife pond and plant it up with native aquatic plants! Great work team! 💧 💧 💧

🌳 Our free guided walks in Petworth Park with Senior Ranger Tom are now open for booking. Join Tom to discover the park’s wildlife, history, and the work we do to care for this special place.

📅 Ranger Ramble dates:
• Weds 25 Feb, 10.30–12.30
• Thurs 5 March, 10.30–12.30

Both walks are the same, so please book just one. If you can’t make these dates, more walks will be announced later in the year.

BIG DAY! Yesterday I planted my first tree out in the Park at Petworth. I’ve planted thousands during my career as a ranger, but this one means a lot as it’s the first one since my daughter was born, so I’ll be calling it Thea’s Tree. 🌳

It’s a Scarlet oak, Quercus coccinea, part of the North American palette which Petworth boasts a beautiful collection of. It should provide an amazing display of colour in the autumn, and as an open grow tree, it will hopefully live for a couple of hundred years - maybe a bit longer. I won’t forget to water this one! 💦

Plenty more planting in the Park to be done - open grown hawthorns and blackthorns next. Be great to see some more fruiting species out in the Park 🍒

Mum and baby doing really well, I’m so proud of them both. Thea’s definitely made her presence known to the world. We’ve never been more in love ❤️
