Longtimber Woods

I've not posted much about Autumn so when I had some spare time today I managed to get out to a new woodland I've never known about till recently and I was spoiled by the colours!

As someone who's lived in Plymouth all his life, I've only just discovered these incredible woods 20 minutes away from where I live. What an amazing place to spend my Saturday, I'll be returning soon as I only explored a small section.

These are available as prints if you're interested 😊

It's easily one of the best hobbies to get involved with, especially as once you have everything, it basically becomes free (minus fuel and food).

Wild camping is so much fun and can take you to some incredible places, just be sensible and careful when going out, especially solo. Let others know where you plan to be and when you plan to be back, just in case!

Now you're ready to get out into nature and enjoy the environment, it's much easier than you think!

It's all good posting my camping experiences and adventures, but where would someone even think to start about what's needed for such a thing?

Heres a quick layout of everything I take wild camping, at least most of the time. It does vary on the weather and where I want to camp, but it's a general idea of what to take.

Yes, a lot of what I have is considered pretty expensive, and my bank would agree, but don't focus on the brands. That's just what I like. Focus on the actual items themselves, and you'll get a broad idea of the things you may need.

Note - I've not included my boots, powerbank and maybe a few little things but that's just me being forgetful but the majority of everything is here so it may help give you a suggestion of what you need!

Let's talk about it.

As someone who loves the outdoors and is always camping on Dartmoor, I'm sick to death of seeing rubbish left behind and scattered along the moors.

Took the dog for a hike today to scout out new potential camping areas and came across the remains of someone's campsite.

Multiple firepits, gas canisters, cans, tent pegs, a whole tent, and tarp left there too.

Being able to enjoy nature is a privilege and especially on Dartmoor! The only national park in england that allows for legal wild camping and yet people still don't look after this luxury!

With the current legal ongoings regarding the future of wild camping on Dartmoor, this sort of thing doesn't help and only adds fuel to the political fire that people like us are desperately trying to fight.

Don't leave your junk around, especially with wild animals roaming the moors and all over the country that can easily come along and eat something they shouldn't or get trapped because you decided to leave rope or netting on the ground.

If I can manage to pick it all up with a single bin bag alongside walking the dog, I think it's pretty easy for you to carry it back while in a group.

Look after the environment, it's the only one we've got.

P.s I hope your firewood gets soaked now I've nicked your tarp 😘

Rant over, enjoy nature and have fun.

Possibly some of my favourite photos I've taken in recent months, feels like I've finally dialled in my photography again!

Such a fun weekend hosting another group hike and camp weekend, taking the train and exploring the Dorset Coast. It was so nice meeting new people and having laughs together.

Some of my favourite shots, prints available on any of images. Drop me a message.

This was a very last minute idea after initially putting off the camp due to poor weather forecast but at 11:30pm I just loaded the car and shot up to Dartmoor and hiked through the dark to one of my favourite woodland spots.

Walking through the woods with a dodgy headtorch running low on power is sort of terrifying but it worked out. After some horse jump scares I had the tent set up and hit the sack.

Woke up early with the plan to take it easy, so I cooked up a nice bacon sandwich and did some drawing of the campsite.

It's really nice just slowing down and taking it all in.

The first autumn wild camp of 2024, up on Great Staple Tor on the south border of the Merrivale/Wilsworthy/Okehampton firing range on Dartmoor.

A pretty amazing Tor with 360° views, including Tavistock, Princetown, Plymouth, and on clear days, most of the north moors towards Okehampton.

It's really accessible to get too with a steady walk from Pork Hill Car Park, usually 20-30 mins, depending on how direct you want to go.

Although the weather was incredible with a nice warm evening sun, the wind was very strong and almost lost the drone once or twice 😅
