Speed, power and a little flash of rusty red… 🦅📸

Another bird I had the opportunity to photograph during my day at the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover — the beautiful Lanner Falcon.

One of the things that really caught my eye was that distinctive rusty-coloured head, but getting the chance to photograph this bird in flight was something else entirely.

Lanner Falcons are incredibly fast and agile flyers, native to parts of Africa, southern Europe and southwest Asia. Like other falcons, their streamlined bodies and pointed wings are perfectly built for speed.

For me, this was another chance to work on one of the hardest parts of wildlife photography — tracking a fast-moving bird through the viewfinder and getting that focus exactly where you want it. 📸

Really pleased with how these turned out, especially being able to capture the wings and tail completely spread out in flight. ❤️🦅

Those eyes! 👀🦅

Another incredible bird I had the chance to photograph during my visit to the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover — the Black Kite.

Black Kites are one of the most widespread birds of prey in the world and are incredibly adaptable hunters and scavengers. Despite their name, they’re actually more dark brown than black, with that unmistakable hooked beak and some seriously impressive eyesight.

For these shots I wanted to concentrate on the smaller details — the layers of feathers around the head, the beak and, most of all, those incredible yellow eyes. 📸

And when it looked straight down the lens for that final shot… what a stare! 😳🦅

Another fantastic bird to practise my close-up wildlife portraits with and definitely one of my favourite expressions from the day.

A little splash of blue… 🩵📸

Another beautiful bird I had the opportunity to photograph at the Hawk Conservancy Trust — the Blue-winged Kookaburra.

It might look similar to the better-known Laughing Kookaburra, but those gorgeous blue feathers on the wings really make this species stand out. They’re actually members of the kingfisher family and are native to northern Australia and parts of New Guinea.

I really enjoyed getting some close-up portraits of this one, especially when it turned just enough to show off those stunning blue wing feathers. 🩵

Definitely another bird I’d never had the opportunity to photograph before!

There’s just something special about a Golden Eagle. 🦅📸

I had the opportunity to photograph this incredible bird during my visit to the Hawk Conservancy Trust, and seeing one this close really makes you appreciate just how powerful and beautiful they are. Those piercing eyes, that huge hooked beak and the detail in those golden-brown feathers are absolutely stunning.

Photographing this one was an amazing experience, but there’s still one shot firmly on my wildlife photography bucket list…

One day, I would absolutely love to photograph a Golden Eagle in the wild. 🦅🏔️

Hopefully at some point in my life I’ll be lucky enough to be sitting behind the camera, watching one of these magnificent birds soaring through its natural habitat. Until then, these photographs will certainly do! ❤️📸

Sometimes it’s all about the details… 🦅📸

A few months ago I visited the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover and used the day as an opportunity to work on my wildlife photography skills and try something a little different.

One of the birds I had the chance to photograph was this incredible Steller’s sea eagle. They’re one of the largest and most powerful eagles in the world, and that huge yellow beak certainly makes an impression!

But for me, it was the eye that really caught my attention. 👁️🦅 I wanted to get in as close as I could and capture all of that amazing detail — the feathers, the textures around the beak and especially that beautiful golden eye.

That extreme close-up of the eye has to be one of my favourite detail shots from the day. 📸❤️

Apparently the buzzards weren’t the only ones wanting their moment in front of the camera! 😂📸

This gull dropped in during my session at Otterbourne Hide & Studios and clearly decided it wanted to be part of the photoshoot too. It even gave me a few poses before making a rather dramatic exit! 🪽

Not quite the bird I’d gone there to photograph… but when a model volunteers, you don’t say no! 😂

A few more shots from an incredible afternoon with the buzzards. 🦅📸

I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get tired of photographing these birds. The detail in their feathers, those piercing eyes and the sheer presence they have when you see them up close is something else.

These were taken during my session at the Buzzard & Fox Hide at Otterbourne Hide & Studios, and it was one of those days where everything seemed to come together. Plenty more buzzard photos still to come! 😍🦅

These have to be some of the best photos I’ve ever taken of a buzzard. 🦅📸

Taken during my visit to the Buzzard & Fox Hide at Otterbourne Hide & Studios, I was lucky enough to get incredibly close views of this beautiful bird.

Being able to capture all those little details — the eyes, hooked beak, feathers and some brilliant expressions — made the whole session for me. That second shot especially looks like it had something to say! 😂

Definitely a set I’m proud to have in my wildlife photography collection. ❤️🦅

A couple of months ago I booked the Buzzard & Fox Hide at Otterbourne Hide & Studios, and what an experience it was! 📸🦅

The buzzards came sweeping in for the bait, giving me some incredible opportunities to photograph them coming into land with those huge wings spread. I managed to come away with some shots I’m really pleased with.

Absolutely stunning birds and a brilliant day behind the camera! 🙌
