I’ve always loved film photography, as it’s where I started out. So seeing couples reigniting a market for it brings so much joy!

There’s a need or craving for imperfection in images in a world that we’ve created of perfect imagery. Something that captures essence not accuracy.

Compare it to digital and it’s wildly different. It evokes more feeling, it’s gentle, raw, honest.

I love both digital and film as both have their place but there’s an excitement with film that’s unparalleled. You imagine what the shot looks like then you wait.

I love that my film camera sparks up conversations with guests at weddings, and they share with me what they love about film.

I love that it makes things feel sort of timeless and artistic all in one.

It scratches the itch of technical skill and artistic flair all in one!

But mostly I love that I can’t really quite work out what I love most about it. Why using different films is exciting, the colours are unique, or it somehow makes me feel like a more confident photographer.

It’s the way light gets captured, the softness of it all.

Im 100% inspired by film photographers like nan goldin, camille delaune, rinko kawauchi - especially capturing everyday moments and people!

So here’s a little insight into my approach, why I love film, why you should love it too and what it can add to capturing your wedding day.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading psa for film!

Now we’ve done the reintroduction, let’s get back to sharing what we do best.

In all honesty, I’m (Alexandra) not naturally the best at social media. The constant ‘you should do this’ and ‘you should be posting that’ side of it can honestly drive me a bit insane. So towards the end of my pregnancy, I really tried to take a step back and learn more about it all properly.

Social media has changed so much over the years. I’ve been using it for over 20 years now which honestly feels wild to say out loud. And using it personally versus running a business on it are two completely different things.

But at the heart of it all, what we really love sharing are real moments.

Being a wedding photographer or videographer isn’t just about capturing things in a beautiful way. It’s about being in it with people. Capturing the emotion, the atmosphere, the tiny moments in between, on a day where you feel your absolute fanciest and most emotional all at once.

And Anna and James’ wedding was exactly that.

They’d put so much love and effort into creating an incredible day, but what really drew us both in was the emotion and the connection between them and the people around them. We both cried during their ceremony because it was just so heartfelt. Their daughter had prerecorded a speech for her dad that played at the beginning and honestly, as parents to a 4 year old ourselves, with another baby on the way at the time, it absolutely finished us off.

I think my point is that, I really want to focus on showing what real weddings actually feel like. What love looks like. What emotion looks like. What genuine moments look like, because when we think about our couples and their galleries, we don’t just think about the wedding day itself. We think about 20, 30, 40 years from now. Sitting with your wedding album and looking back at who you were then, everything that’s changed since, and all the people who were there with you. The moments that felt so big at the time yet somehow felt like yesterday.

I know that’s how I feel looking at our wedding or family photos and I honestly cherish that feeling and memories. Anyone else?

Hello from us!

It’s been a little while since we’ve posted properly on here, so a small life update is needed. We welcomed our second daughter 8 weeks ago and have been somehow finding our rhythm with two kids, work, and everything in between. If you’ve had a meeting with us recently, you’ll have probably already met her… multitasking is very much part of the daily life now.

We’ve got lots of incredible weddings ahead this year and we genuinely can’t wait to meet you all properly and be part of your day. Next year is already shaping up to be amazing too, so thank you to everyone who’s booked us recently. It doesn’t go unnoticed.

Planning a wedding can feel like a lot right now. There’s so much noise, so many trends, so many opinions. But our approach has always been simple. Make a day that feels like you. Because when it does, your photos and films will too.

Choosing suppliers can feel exciting and overwhelming all in one. There are a lot of us out there! What makes us different is that we do this together, as a couple, as a team, as a family. We are a calm, seamless experience where we’re fully in it with you.

For us, it’s never just about how things look. It’s about how it felt. The people in the room. The moments you didn’t even realise were happening. The once in a lifetime kind of stuff. Those are the moments you’ll want to relive and look back upon. The cherished group photos or the full speeches will both laughter and tears!

Behind the scenes at The Crowthers, it’s pretty low key. We edit in our bedroom because… two kids. We’ve got 6 chickens, 2 cats (see pic of Albert), and there’s usually music on in the background (love a bit of house/electronic). Kitchen dance parties are a regular thing. Calum’s growing his own veg, and Alexandra is fully in her romantasy and crocheting era. Big into homemade curries and walks in the peaks. Not in that order!

Mostly, we just love what we do. Creating together, working with lovely couples, and making the whole thing feel easy from start to finish.

If you’re planning your wedding and want something that feels like you, we’d love to hear from you!!

If you’re getting married and just want the day to feel… easy, then this might resonate.

You want to enjoy your wedding as it actually happens,
not feel like you’re performing for the camera.

The moments that tend to matter most are the quiet ones.

The shared looks, the inside jokes, the way you naturally are together when no one’s asking anything of you.

If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place.

35mm Film! So, on and off all year I have been testing out using film at weddings. What I find most hard is switching from digital to analogue mentally and physically. It’s a practice and those that can do it with ease, well done!

I’ve learnt a lot about myself this year and how I like to shoot film and digital and how that actually looks like on a wedding day without missing any key moments digitally. I’m so focused on that.

I definitely haven’t managed to use film at every wedding this year. I don’t like point and shoot cameras and I’m much better on my fully manual SLR. No surprises there when I used to teach students analogue photography and even now I shoot fully manual digitally always! Aperture priority? Never heard of her 😂

So this is just a handful of images I have back. What I love with photography is there’s always something new to learn. Digital images can feel super clean and put together, and analogue has edge, rawness and texture. Are these the best images I’ve ever taken? No. But they capture a feeling. And I’m into that.

Do I want to buy lots more analogue film kit? Yes. Yes I do.

The dream is to shoot on medium format! All in good time eh.

I’d love to know what folks think? Are you into it? Are you not?

Here’s a look at Emma & Adam’s wedding from earlier this year! We also had a pre wedding shoot with them too, so if you scroll you’ll see a snippet of those!

They had a lovely day with personal vows, confetti everywhere, their dog Gloria joined us and they had glow sticks on the dance floor and games too!

Adam left us a really lovely review saying:

“We just wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible work you did capturing our wedding day. From the moment we met you, your professionalism, warmth, and passion for your craft were evident and you truly exceeded all our expectations.

The photos and videos are absolutely stunning. You managed to capture not just the big moments, but also the quiet, emotional ones that mean so much to us. Every smile, every tear, every laugh - it’s all there, beautifully preserved. Watching the videos and looking through the photos brought us right back to that day, and we’ll treasure them for the rest of our lives.
Thank you for your patience, your creativity, and your ability to make everyone feel comfortable and natural. You were such an important part of our day, and we’re so grateful to have had you there!

Anyone who has the pleasure of working with you is in for a treat!”
