With the addition of our Fuji Frontier SP3000, we can now offer border scans to retain every detail captured in camera.

Your frames. Uncropped, no compromise.

NEW SCANNER HAS LANDED! 📣 🥳

We recently picked up a Fuji Frontier SP3000 scanner, which we are very excited about!

We’ve primarily added the Fuji to help with capacity and to provide some new services.

But it does offer something a little different for your scans… colour & contrast render, shadow details and other elements!

We thought you might want to experiment with the two options, or you may already have a preference…

So, we’ve added a new scanning option to the website, which can be found under ‘Scanning Extras’ on the ‘Develop your Film’ drop-down. From here you can choose to have your film scanned on our Fuji scanner (no extra cost!).

Our default scanner is and still will be our trusty Noritsu HS-1800, but we will utilise the Fuji in times of higher volume. So with this in mind, if you love the results you’ve had from the Noritsu, you can also choose this under ‘Scanning Extras’.

We will put a link in bio so you can find the option to choose Fuji scans & will also share some comparison scans soon, so you can see what this scanner can do! 🎞️

Congratulations .gold, for capturing these brilliant shots from Bath!

There’s a real romanticism to this snapshot of life, a quiet moment for this couple enjoying a coffee on the weir bridge cafe. The framing of the shot using the door frame to create foreground, with the river flowing gently away in the background Is brilliant!

The landscape of weir pairs beautifully with the first shot, providing a macro view of the wider environment the first image exists in. You get a real sense of quietness and calm from this shot, we think the swan gliding through the frame adds to this feeling of serenity!

It’s been a LONG time since we’ve shown our faces here, and following on from the lab’s FIFTH birthday last month, we thought this was a good time to say hello… again!

We’re Hope, Jack, Daisie & Twig. Between the four of us we run The Film Safe developing lab. Equal work load and effort of course!

We founded the lab five years ago during COVID, having both lost our jobs during the pandemic and bonding over a shared love of photography and film.

With little more than one film photography degree between us and a boat load of enthusiasm (and time!), we’ve gone from a hobbyist set up in the spare room at home back in Feb 2021, to a fully-fledged lab in the centre of Southampton 5 years on in Feb 2026.

But the main driver for our growth and our still being here doing what we love is you guys. Without your support, love, trust (and sometimes, patience) there’s no way we could still be here running our small lab and being a part of the film community that we treasure so much. So, from us to you, THANK YOU.

Every single roll of film sent has been equally appreciated. Whether you send us film every week, a yearly roll from your holidays or that one dusty film you found in your parents draw. And to all you photographers who have moved on, moved away or put down the film camera. We are grateful to all of you and value wholeheartedly, your part in the life of The Film Safe.
