“Who, me?” 🐿️🥹
It’s difficult not to smile at a face like this.
Grey squirrels often get blamed for the decline of our beautiful native red squirrels, and although they do compete with reds for food and can carry squirrelpox, I don’t think the individual animal deserves our anger.
Grey squirrels didn’t choose to come to Britain — we introduced them. They’re simply doing what every wild animal does: surviving, finding food and raising the next generation.
We absolutely should protect and restore our remaining red squirrel populations, but perhaps we can do that while still appreciating the wildlife right in front of us.
This curious little character at Moulton Marsh certainly seemed more interested in checking me out than causing any trouble. 😂❤️
Wildlife doesn’t know whether we’ve labelled it native or introduced — it’s just trying to survive.
