The story of CC 🤍
Long before Curiosity Corner had a name, the idea for it was quietly growing.
Back in 2012, my niece Gracie was born. At the time I was working as an Early Years teacher in Manchester, and I would come home to spend time with my sister and her new baby Gracie. I remember thinking how lovely it would be to combine everything I loved about an nursery with a space where parents could stay too, somewhere they could sit, drink good coffee, catch up and share those early play experiences alongside their children.
The idea for Curiosity had been planted.
Then in 2015 we welcomed Annie. I moved from full-time to part-time teaching and, each week, I would meet my sister at a local play space. By then she had her second baby too, Alice. I came to really value those few hours together, somewhere for the children to play while we sat, talked and supported each other through the beautiful, exhausting and sometimes lonely early years of motherhood.
By the time George arrived in 2018, the idea had never left me.
I was still commuting to Manchester, leaving home at 6.30am and often not getting back until 6.30pm. I knew something had to change. When a request for a little more flexibility at work was turned down, it suddenly felt like now or never.
And the funny thing was, I didn’t need to sit down and invent Curiosity.
I could already see it.
For six years I’d been quietly adding to the idea in my head, thinking about how it should look, how it should feel and what I wanted it to offer families.
So I left teaching, started searching for the right building and eventually found the little space that would become Curiosity Corner.
In 2020, we opened the doors.
And the rest, as they say, is history. 🤍
CC was created from my experience as an Early Years teacher, but perhaps even more importantly, from my experience as an Aunty and as a Mum.
I wanted to create the place I had been looking for in those early years with my own children.
And I feel incredibly lucky that, six years later, so many other families have made it part of their story too.
More than a play space. Always. 🤍
