Unfortunately it's time for us to leave the Decimus Park Workshop! Due to the economic climate along with other commitments we have downsized and will now operate partially from home and on site for some of our existing clients. The highest shutter count we’ve ever seen here at 1staidrepairs! This Canon 5Ds came into us suffering with a shutter fault. When we plugged the camera into our system we found that the camera had done 2.2 million shots out of the 150,000 lifespan. It is amazing that the camera has only just started to go wrong after this many shots! In order for us to complete a reliable repair, a new complete mirror box and shutter assembly were recommended to the customer.

It is our 20th Birthday !

The current situation is not quite what we expected when we were planning to celebrate 20 years since we started 1st Aid Repairs to provide a friendly, helpful and high quality repair service, but we will still celebrate with you, our customers through social media.

We are open, however unfortunately due to the escalating situation surrounding COVID-19, we are taking steps to limit the spread of the virus by significantly reducing our service operations.

We have limited staff to just one in the office and one technician in the workshop.

We are not open to the public, and request that all repairs are sent by parcel. Please also advise us be email when you dispatch your parcel.

We would be grateful if you are able to limit communication to emails where possible, to assist us with the processing of repairs with as little disruption as possible.

Thank you for your assistance and understanding during the pandemic.

Attack of the Dremel

We had a customer send in their Panasonic GH5 the other day with a card socket failure. Great a nice regular job, should be done quickly. Not this time!

Once we had the camera dismantled we realised things were not quite what they should be.

Strangely, there was yellow tape over the card socket!

On further examination and removal of the tape, we could see the socket had been attacked with what we can only assume was a Dremel in an attempt to remove the card.

Thankfully only the card socket was damaged so we were able to remove and replace the damaged part and the camera was good as new. Although this cost the customer more than sending it in to just get the card removed.

The moral of the story is if you have to break out a cutting tool to fix your electronics call an expert.
