Work in progress on the sea defences.
At Thorpeness on the Suffolk coast, temporary sea defences are being installed to help slow the rapid erosion threatening homes along the shoreline. Large rock-filled bags are being placed on the beach to absorb the force of the waves and stabilise the coast. While only a short-term solution, the defences are intended to buy valuable time for residents and local authorities as longer-term plans to protect the village are considered.

Thorpeness Village is a charming seaside village located on the Suffolk coast, known for its whimsical architecture and magical setting. Founded in the early 20th century by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie, the village was designed to resemble a fantasy land, complete with mock-Tudor houses, a boating lake called the Meare, and the iconic House in the Clouds. The Meare features themed islands inspired by J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan. The village is losing meters of ground to the North Sea each year.
