Breastfeeding portraits were surprisingly popular in the Victorian era. Perhaps it was something to do with the shockingly high rates of infant mortality. The novelist and ceramicist Elizabeth Macneal wanted to commemorate the end of that era for her with her third child, using an authentic Victorian photographic process. Here's the result, a 5x7" tintype, a poignant and beautiful moment in a mother's journey.

Our 1000th follower was the amazing Colicia LAZYDAYS | Narrowboat so we tracked her down in Banbury to take a few tintypes with the mobile studio. She's also a photographer: LAZYDAYS Photography | Colicia and was curious about the tintype process, so Colicia had a go at making a tintype herself (see last frame) - clearly a natural! 🤩.
