Some weddings feel loud in the best possible way.
Not because of fireworks or confetti cannons… just because the whole day is full of people properly there with each other and living the moments.

Katie and Pete’s wedding at Oak Farm Hotel had that feeling from the start.

Tears during the morning prep.
Laughter that spread across the groups.
Garden games getting slightly more competitive as the drinks kicked in.

It was one of those days where nobody seemed in a rush to get to the next part. People stayed in moments a bit longer. Hugged tighter, had a laugh and live in the moment.

And once the light started to soften in the evening, we slipped away for a few creative portraits to finish the day properly. No fuss. Just the two of them, taking it all in for a minute before heading back to the party.

These are the moments at weddings I love most.
Real emotions. Connected people. A bit chaotic at times. Very funny but human.

There’s always one photo during the slideshow where the whole room quietly stops for a second.

Usually it’s not the confetti shot.
Or the dancefloor chaos.
Or the dramatic portrait in the dark.

It’s something like this.

A daughter comforting her dad moments before walking into one of the biggest days of her life. The kind of moment that says everything without either of them really needing words.

I shared this frame during the same-day slideshow at the wedding, and one guest said:

“You know they say a photograph can speak a thousand feelings and emotions… this is one of those.”

This one stayed with me.

It is because this is the stuff that matters years later. Not trends. Not perfect posing. Just honest moments between people who mean the world to each other.

This wedding is currently in the edit queue getting the full treatment now, and I already know this photograph will become one of those family images that gets held onto tightly for a very long time.

Received notification overnight that this documentary moment from D&Rs wedding in Staffordshire has been awarded in collection 5 awards.

There were several standout scenes as Dani walked down the aisle and I love the pride & excitement that shows on their faces.

This wedding was at the Upper House in Barlaston and is a beautiful venue, nice grounds to have outdoor moments and their ceremonies are often in the conservatory space as was this wedding.

“I’m really awkward in photos.”

I hear that at nearly every consultation.

Usually said while laughing a bit. Like a warning.
As if I’m about to discover something difficult on the wedding day.

Truth is, most people feel awkward when a camera turns up - YES, this includes me too!

Not because they’re bad at photos.
Mostly because they think they’re supposed to suddenly know what to do with their hands, face, feet and general existence.

You don’t.

The best photographs usually happen a few minutes after people stop trying to “look good”.

That’s when shoulders drop.
Someone starts talking properly again.
You forget I’m there for a second.

And that’s the bit worth photographing.

You don’t need to perform your wedding day for me.
You just need to turn up and be in it.

There’s a point where it all goes a bit quiet.

No, not in the room - that carries on as it always does.
But in their head.

You can see it sometimes.
That moment where everything catches up. The day, the people, what’s about to happen next.

No posing. Some or no direction. Followed by just a second of stillness.

Most of the couples I work with tell me they’re awkward in photos.

They’re not.

They’ve just never been given the space to feel like themselves while someone’s watching.

There’s usually a moment, late in the evening, where everything slows down.

The music carries on somewhere behind you.
Glasses clink in the distance.
And for five minutes, it’s just the two of you… stood in the quiet, wondering how the day went so quickly.

This was that moment for Dani & Ricki.
A gazebo lit just enough, a bit of October air, and a simple bit of creativity in-camera to turn it into something more than it looked at first glance.

Since then, this photograph has quietly gone on to have a life of its own.
It picked up a Silver with Flashmasters back in December 2025… and now, a Bronze Award with The Photographer Guild this April.

More than that though, it’s the one people stop at.
At exhibitions, it’s the image that holds them for a second longer than the others. No big reaction, just a pause. Which usually says more.

I think it’s because it feels like them. Not a pose, not a performance - just a moment that happened to look like this.

It started with Harriet running from dads car to the doorway under an umbrella protecting from the deluge of rain.
Into a quiet village church. The kind where footsteps echo a bit, and everyone turns slightly when the door opens.

Then it moved home.

Not a venue dressed to impress - just a place that already meant something.
A tea station set up in the outbuilding, cups in hand, people drifting in and out between conversations. Glasses topped up and friends sharing jokes.

At one point, Harriet and Luke wandered off for a quick game of tennis. Still in full wedding attire. Friends and family watching, cheering and celebrating - showing their personality and having their day their way.

Later, everyone gathered in a space built from what they had - a converted double garage, stretched out with marquee canvas to keep the summer showers at bay. Plates passed, chairs pulled closer, that low hum of a room settling into itself.

Nothing forced.
Nothing overthought.
Just a day that unfolded exactly as it should.

Harriet & Luke — this was properly yours.
