I’d love to see students in public schools looking good and classy in new uniforms. It will be pretty nice.
But I’ll vote for them learning differently and proactively. That is why the STEM schools is such a good move.
I’ll prefer a policy that changes the mindset of our students to just a change in the colour of what they wear.
Unless there’s a credible study and data suggesting that public school uniform colour is contributing to the poor teaching and learning and low academic standards.
Change of National School Uniforms is such a big project. A complete change of national identity.
I believe there should be more than just a ministry’s call.
More, so that another minister in same government or another government doesn’t come in 10 years to say his/her favorite colour is yellow and black.
Things like this should be part of our national culture, identity and overall development plan rather than the edict of a minister.
Just like the see-saw we did with the SSS/SHS ie the 3 year 4 year scheme, let us not reduce core national values and development agenda to political chess.
We have to think about this holistically. To me needless at this point, of major challenges particularly in that same education sector.
That investment, should, in my opinion, be directed into a 4-year drive to ensure there’s NO single school under tree in the whole country by 2028.
