NEPAL FLOODS: DEATH TOLL RISES TO 469 AS SEARCH FOR MISSING CONTINUES
KATHMANDU, NEPAL: The death toll from devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on Wednesday has risen to 469, according to Nepal Police, as search and rescue teams continue operations across several affected districts.
The disaster struck along the Bhotekoshi River in northern Nepal before floodwaters and debris surged downstream through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems.
Homes, roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and other critical infrastructure have been destroyed or severely damaged, leaving communities cut off and thousands of people affected.
Rescue teams and security personnel are continuing to search for people reported missing, while authorities are also monitoring the risk of further flooding.
The disaster has also affected foreign nationals and travellers in the region, with hundreds of people from different countries reported missing.
As the search and recovery operation continues, the full scale of the devastation is still being assessed.
