Este es un resumen de mi pieza, Ubuntu, palabra que en kirundi (idioma local de Burundi) se traduce como "humanidad". Pero va más allá: es un modo de estar en el mundo. Cuidar a los otros, a los animales, a la tierra.
Como latinoamericana en África, quería reflejar
nuestros colores compartidos, esos que nos han sido robados,succionados por el colonialismo histórico que aún golpea al sur global.
Ubuntu nace como respuesta,
como resiliencia de comunidades que,
con mucho orgullo, aún existimos.
Que resistimos. Que creamos.
Esta pieza es un abrazo entre dos tierras heridas.
Corazones que lloran y brillan traves de su herida.
Gracias por tan increíble evento, que la luz y el arte público se disperse por África y el resto del sur global.

This piece is called Ubuntu — a word that in Kirundi, the local language of Burundi, translates as "humanity." But it goes beyond that: it's a way of being in the world.
Caring for others, for animals, for the earth.
As a Latin American woman in Africa, I wanted to reflect our shared colors — those that have been stolen from us, sucked dry by historical colonialism that still strikes the Global South.
Ubuntu emerges as a response. As resilience from communities that, with great pride, still exist. That resist. That create.
This piece is an embrace between two wounded lands.
Hearts that weep and shine through their wounds.
Thank you for such an incredible event. May light and public art spread across Africa and the rest of the Global South.
