A lion side face hiding in the clouds...
I took this photo earlier in the year on a rainy day. The Lion Rock face appeared from within the clouds for just a brief instant. Luckily, I could catch it with my camera.

The Fig Tree of Temple Street. This tree was a bit of a local celebrity in Yau Ma Tei during the early 2010s. When plans were announced to demolish the building at 23 Temple Street, public pushback quickly followed. Among the most vocal defenders of the building were supporters of an iconic fig tree (Chinese Banyan) growing wildly on its rooftop. As social media gained traction, a page was created to raise awareness about the tree and the threat to the building. Ultimately, while the building was saved from demolition, the tree had to be removed because its roots threatened the structural integrity of the property.

Every character featured here is the exact same word. Historically, calligraphic masters would write the character 福 (fú, meaning "good fortune") a hundred times in different scripts to showcase their creative range. Inspired by these classic works, I set out to capture a hundred variations of 福 across Hong Kong, documenting the diversity of design, craftsmanship, and local vernacular found in our street signage. I then created the collage '百福全圖 – Hundred Fortunes' by arranging these hundred photographs so that they subtly form the character 福 itself.. In 2022, I was honoured to have this series included in '字由人 - By the People: Creative Chinese Characters', an exhibition curated by renowned designer Freeman Lau Freeman Lau that ran for over a year at the Hong Kong Museum of Art 香港藝術館 Hong Kong Museum of Art.

The Immortals.... Chinese Banyan are not only extraordinary for their adaptation to the environment, their vitality is also unmatched. While looking for them in the streets of Hong Kong, it is common to see trees on concrete being cut to nothing more than a small trunk base due to the damage they can cause on pipes and structures. From this point, they will always manage to grow back again, usually spreading small branches in all directions at the base of the trunk. For such trees, the significant difference between the size of their foliage and their extended roots indicate that someone tried to get rid of them... unsuccessfully.
