15K CHALLENGE — WEEK 36 💗📸

1,440 PEOPLE PHOTOGRAPHED.
Yes. One thousand, four hundred and forty.
In ONE week. 😅

I think that number can do most of the talking for me.

The team is absolutely SMASHING IT right now, and watching everything we’ve built - our people, our systems, our rhythm - handle weeks like this feels pretty incredible.

And next week?

We start a school with 3,100 people. 😂

The team is going ALL PINK 💗, the energy is HIGH, and we are very, very ready. Or at least that’s what we’re telling ourselves. 😂

Week 36: 1,440 added to the count.
Next stop: 3,100. LET’S GO, TEAM. 💪🏼📸💗

New school, new snacks. Snacks & Snaps is back. 🥪📸

Bridget & Olivia have once again put aside their very serious photography responsibilities to conduct some equally serious snack research. 😂

And this one?

They were NOT expecting it to be this good. 👀

Watch until the verdict… and let us know if you somehow ended up hungry too. 🤭

At this point, we’re not sure if we’re photographing our way around Hong Kong schools or eating our way around them.

August, you were LOUD. 😂📸

Back from holidays → straight into one of our busiest seasons yet.

Thousands of portraits.
Very early mornings.
A LOT of coffee.
New schools.
Big opportunities.
An incredible team doing what they do best.
And somehow… plenty of dancing in between. 💃

JLP is officially back. And we’re only getting started. 🩷

In our defence… we had been professional ALL DAY. 😂

Hundreds of children photographed, countless smiles created, everything packed away… At some point, the school photographers become the children.

Apparently, it’s immediately after the last class. 💕

Consider this our official end-of-day debrief.

15K CHALLENGE — WEEK 34 ✨

BIG week. And I mean BIG. 😅

Malvern College ✔️
Straight into North Anglia ✔️
Bridget’s birthday 🎂
Hotel booked near the school because apparently “I need to know everything is under control” now includes sleeping within emergency distance. 😂

And then… my ESF tender interview.
Nerve-wracking? Very.
Done? YES.
Now we wait. 🤞🏼

Somewhere in between, I still managed time with my kids, my girlfriends and myself. 🩷

A lot happening. A lot to be grateful for.

Week 34, done. Onto the next. 📸

There’s actually a reason for this.
Win them over BEFORE you point a camera at them.

The photoshoot doesn’t start when we pick up the camera. It starts with the first hello. The energy. The high five. The feeling that this might actually be fun.

Every little interaction helps a child relax and feel safe enough to be themselves.

And that’s when we get what we’re really looking for:

Not the “smile at me!” smile.

Their smile. Their personality. Them. 🩷

Modern school photography is about so much more than changing how the portraits look.

It’s changing the whole experience of creating them. 📸✨

Want a natural smile from a child?
Stop asking for one. 😅

“Smile!”
“Look at me!”
“Look at the camera!”
“Come on, big smile!”

Usually gets you exactly what you’d expect… the school-photo smile. 😂

Our job is to make children forget about the camera for a second.

Make them curious. Surprise them. Ask the unexpected question. Be a little ridiculous if necessary.

The laugh is never the goal.

The connection comes first. The genuine smile follows. 😉

Here’s a trick from us, use it in your next shoot and tell us if it works. 😌

Every time someone visits us on a school photo day, they usually say the same thing: “Wow... it all looks so calm.”

What they don’t see is that calm doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s built.

One checklist.
One workflow.
One backup battery.
One clearly labelled memory card.
One team role.
One conversation.
One improvement after another.

People often think systems are restrictive.
We’ve found the opposite.

The better our systems become, the more present we can be with children.

Instead of worrying about what comes next, we can focus on making a child laugh.
Instead of solving avoidable problems, we can create memorable moments.

That’s why we care so much about systems. Because we’re obsessed with creating an experience that feels effortless, for schools, parents, children and our team.

The calm you see on photo day was created long before the first child walked through the door.

15K CHALLENGE — WEEK 33
Okay… we are VERY much back. 😂📸

800+ people photographed this week and something felt a little different this time.

I spent less time behind the camera and a lot more time leading the team, making sure everything was moving, supporting everyone and watching them absolutely smash it. 🤓

And I’ll admit… letting go of the camera hasn’t always been easy for me. But this is what growth looks like.

Less “I need to do everything.”
More “Look what WE can do.”

The team performed beautifully, the systems did their thing, the coffee did its thing ☕️… and somehow 800+ people later, we’re still smiling.

Week 33. JLP is officially back in business. 💪🏼💕
