Unusual Rhymes This page is an extension of my instagram profile. Why Unusual Rhymes? I like this sentence I came across: "Even the wrong words may rhyme".

I realized that what I love doing may apparently be conflicting, but yet altogether everything matches.

Sopot is a sea town located on the Baltic Sea and together with Gdańsk and Gdynia forms a metropolitan area called Trójmiasto. Though this seaside has a very changeable and unexpected weather, here you can really breath a holiday vibe.

The main street is Monciak which ends on the lighthouse and the famous Pier on the beach. It is the longest wooden pier in Europe, 450 metres from the edge of the shore, 650 m total.

Zagreb is split between its upper (Gornji Grad) and lower town (Dornji Grad), but after the war it has been expanding incorporating many settlements. Its funicular is the shortest in the world: it lasts only 64 seconds!

In Zagreb you can find austro-hungarian architecture and street art even in the city center.

At the top of Gornji Grad there is St. Mark’s square with its famous church with colored roof. The tiles represent the coat of arms of Zagreb (white castle on red background) and Triune Kingdom of Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia.

Helsinki is probably the less popular capital in Scandinavia.

Its area is constantly growing, but without losing its complementarity with nature. A mixture of stunning landscapes, cute houses and unspoiled nature!

All these pictures were taken in Helsinki surroundings:
- Espoo (area number 2 of Helsinki),
- Suomenlinna fortress (located in several islands),
- Seurasaari island with its open museum.

Kaunas was the capital of Lithuania between 1920 and 1939. During that period Kaunas was celebrated for its rich cultural and academic life, fashion, construction of countless Art Deco and Lithuanian National Romanticism architectural-style buildings as well as popular furniture, the interior design of the time, and a widespread café culture.

The city interwar architecture is regarded as among the finest examples of European Art Deco and has received the European Heritage Label. It contributed to Kaunas being named as the first city in Central and Eastern Europe to be designated as a UNESCO City of Design. Kaunas has been selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2022, together with Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.

Unfortunately, I could visit the capital of Lithuania only during winter! And the overall atmosphere was pretty weird in this season.

The old town is more dispersive, compared to the other Baltic capitals. The best points are the cathedral square and the tower of Gediminas; from this hill you can admire the best view of the whole city.

Fun fact: in Vilnius there is a city in the city in the neighborhood of Uzupis.

But, am I the only one to see a connection with some scenes of Fate Stay Night - Unlimited Blade Works??

The exact origins of Lithuania's Kryžių Kalnas, or the Hill of Crosses, remain a mystery. Just outside the northern city of Šiauliai, thousands of metal and wooden crosses—placed here for nearly two centuries—have found a home on the growing mound of religious fervor. Dangling rosaries chime in the blowing wind and provide a rolling soundtrack for icons of saints and photographs of revered local patriots. Despite many attempts to destroy it, this unusual pilgrimage site endures as a powerful testament to devotion. […]

The tradition of carving religious icons has been handed down through generations. UNESCO recognizes cross-making as intangible cultural heritage of Lithuania, a “symbol of national and religious identity,” uniting the community in the face of adversity.
